L&D After Graduation in W. PA

Published

Do any of the hospitals in Western PA hire to L&D right after graduation? I am currently a pre-nursing student, but am thinking about this way ahead. I plan to start midwife training ASAP after graduating and need a year of experience before I can apply. For the program I hope to attend the experience doesn't have to be in L&D, but I would love it to be. I have also considered trying to get into The Midwife Center in Pittsburgh, but I don't know how hard it is to get in there as an RN. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Try Magee. The nurse Ihad with my last baby was brand spankin new....loved her! (fresh and enthusiastic!)

I agree. You should have no problem with Magee. The nursing school I'm in right now (conemaugh hosp. @ johnstown) will hire you directly to L&D if you do well in the maternal-child rotation in school and are selected to do your management rotation there. It's tough to get your management rotation there though. They usually only have one or two spots open (for a class of 50-60 students). Good luck!

I am a Magee Nurse and will confirm that we are hiring GN's and new RN's. I will be very honest and tell you that it's not the easiest place to start as a new Nurse. I began my OB Nursing career on the Postpartum unit at Magee and am so glad that I did. It's very difficult caring for complicated patients if you don't know what normal and un-complicated is first. Best Wishes!

Oh, how I wish the hospital I'm at would. (Jameson in New Castle) They won't hire till you get 2yrs of med surg. I would LOVE to work on Maternity and I did great in my rotation (96%, missed 11pts total in the class) I'm ALL about conception-childhood.

GL!
