Hey Everyone!
I applied to the September 2016 intake for the post-bacc program at Kwantlen. So far all I know is that they have "received" my application.
Does anyone know if the ministry curriculum revisions for the 4-year program also apply to the 2-year post-bacc? I also have not been asked for any transcripts yet?
I completed a Kinesiology degree at UBC in 2015.
If anyone has gone to the bookstore to order their scrubs and name tag you will know that you need to order your name tag online and that as of the other day the bookstore wasn't sure what needed to be on the name tag. I have emailed L****** and she said that we need our first name and program written as BSN - Post Baccalaureate.
Hey guys,
We're about halfway through semester 2 now, about to start our first clinical in mental health. The program is going good so far, a bit disorganized at times, but you definitely learn a lot and I'm sure once we've done our summer semester (med/surg clinicals) we will really start to feel like nurses! If you have any specific questions ask away and I'll try to respond.
Hey wow ive been waiting forever for someone to respond :) one of my big questions is ... out of all the people you have started with, did any of them drop out? Also, how many hours a week on average would you say you commit to schooling? Is it possible to have a part time job while doing the schooling or would you recommend against it?
I don't think anyone has dropped out so far...although from what I hear from the cohort a year ahead of us that may start happening more during the clinical in the summer (either due to not passing, or deciding they don't like it) but I don't think there will be very many. The work thing is something I had wanted to know too - I know they will probably tell you they don't recommend you work but I can say that most of us work at least part time (the odd one maybe even full-time although I couldn't imagine that), although some don't work at all. Personally I work 2.5 days/week and I find that plenty - and I feel like I'm pretty good at staying on top of things. You definitely need to be self-motivated in this program if its going to work. As for doing it from this far away, it could work, we have one person from the island this year, you just need to be willing to come out for the times that are necessary. And that seems to be changing with each cohort. In our cohort for example, the mental health rotation was moved into semester 2, whereas previously it was in semester 3 with the other clinicals. So in our cohort there are at least 3 chunks of time that you have to be out here for, so its just a matter of if you have family or something that you could potentially stay with for weeks/months at a time when necessary. None of this is from personal experience, as I live nearby, but they do seem to do their best to make it work for those farther away as much as possible.
Has anyone heard back from admissions yet for Sept 2017? They told me I wouldn't make the first round of offers because my Physiology and Anatomy didn't have a lab. It really sucks because I would have retaken the class in September but didn't know this. I'm hoping I'll make the second round of offers.
