kindred scottsdale

anybody can tell me something about working in kindred at scottsdale? how about living in scottsdale compared to los angeles

thanks!

Kindred does not have a bad reputation.

It most certainly does have a horrid reputation in Texas, specifically the DFW area.

It depends on where you are in the country. When I worked for them out East, they enjoyed a great reputation with long waiting lists to get a bed. They were under a different name then and did not want to change their name because their name already had such a good reputation in the region.

But other regions (specifically Florida) got such a bad reputation that they decided to change their name.

A colleague and I both got turned down by an agency in Dallas because they had too many problems with nurses who had worked there and stopped hiring them.

I gave that place my very best and so did many of my co-workers but I will admit that I saw some of the worst bottom of the barrel nursing I'd ever seen in my life and would never want a loved one in one of their Texas facilities.

what's it like working there (kindred) what kind of patients do you have? how about the staffing? is the management supportive? i worked in a hospital that had a very high turnover rate.. the management didn't care if they retain people.. at one point they said the hospital can be staffed just by travel nurses..

I can only speak for one, the Phoenix facility, I haven't worked at any others. The patients are long term acute care patients. You might have someone who needs long term wound care, or a vent patient trying to wean, or we get the bottom of the barrell, people who are really sick no hope for getting better and other facilities wouldn't take them.

The staffing is an issue, there are some rumors going on right now about it changing. So far, I usually have 5-6 patients. It's been higher than that before. I work as an LPN, under an RN who is responsible for the IV's of generally 10-11 patients. Then we have a CNA that also covers about 10 patients, sometimes it is more than that. This is just an average. And I don't know much more about the rumors that staffing is going to change, but so far I haven't seen it get worse yet. They *definitely* need to hire more CNA's though because lately they have been getting a huge load and it's dumb that more aren't hired.

I haven't dealt to much with management. I like the nurse manager a lot. We have some really nice charge nurses. I've had some issues before with things like a CNA dissapearing, or not doing work repeatedly and they've always taken care of it pretty quickly. So my experience has been positive.

As with any facility, you will hear rumors about the good and bad though. I am over at banner estrella right now and it's got a great reputation. However my classmates and I have seen some things done by nursing that have been atrocious! So that kind of thing is everywhere. I hope I never have to be in ANY hospital, I'd probably have a better survival rate at home, lol.
