anybody can tell me something about working in kindred at scottsdale? how about living in scottsdale compared to los angeles

Very hot there, and high electric bills, can be $400 per month and even more just for an apt. Air conditioning is run most of the year except for the winter months.

Traffic can be worse, except that there are routes that you can take without the freeways, but will take much longer.

There's about 4 months out of the year that you'll complain the temps are too high but otherwise the weather is very pleasant. AZ homes are constructed with energy efficiency in mind. There's 3 in our family living in a 2400+ sqft house in the scottsdale area with pool, electric dryer and and our summer electric bill has yet to be over $300. The electricity is some of the cheapest in the country as we have the largest and one of the newest nuclear reactors in the country.

The Phx/Scottsdale roadways are some of the newest you'll find anywhere. You'll notice the AZ freeways are also new and don't have compressed lane widths like those found in CA. There are busy freeway areas you'll need to beware of if you plan to comute to work but you would be hard pressed to find anything comparing to southern CA's legendary freeway gridlock.

Oh my, I've never paid $400 a month for electricity! But then again, I dont run my AC all year! We have had ours off for a while now, and today I am drinking hot cocoa and bundled up in sweats. I think it's 69 degrees right now, but it got in the 50s last night, and that's just too cold!

I can't believe that the PHX area would be comparable to LA. For one thing, you can breathe here, and it is far easier to drive around here as well. I know there are lots of people here, but nothing like it is in LA.

physicians caring for a patient who'd been in the our icu for over 2 months wouldn't let him go to kindred and held him til they could get on access so he could go to select.

I have toured Kindred Phoenix before when I had to select a place for my mother to go to from the ICU. I much preferred Kindred over Select Specialty after my inspection. Unfortunately, her insurance would only pay for Select and she was there about 6 weeks. I only saw a doctor ONE TIME the entire time she was at Select, and I was there every day. Every thing is done from protocols and standing orders. The nurses were mostly foreign from India and not the greatest communicators. I had a doctor order that I could read her chart and that was the only way I was updated on her condition.

Kindred does not have a bad reputation.

I paid $400 and above quite often when I lived there and the salaries were not as high as they are now.

And I have friends that pay over that now. Depends on the size of your home.

Me too Suzanne. My monthly balanced payment is around $350 a month. Price depends on your air conditioner efficiency, what you set your thermostat on, and whether you have a pool with the pool pump running!

I worked at Kindred/Phoenix and would only suggest you have either step-down experience, telemetry, or ICU experience. This was very scary nursing for me and I would prefer never to work there again. I did not like the exposure of caring for 10-11 VERY sick patients. Some of the LPN's would dole out medicinces without looking at why they were giving them. Some wanted to "do their own thing" and not communicate since I was a traveler.

I checked our online checking account for the last 6 months of electrical bills just to make sure. We have APS and that's probably another factor. I think they're cheaper. Also, we don't use APS' bill averaging feature so summer months are higher than other months but it's never hit $300. If we bill averaged, the average monthly electric bill might be closer to $150 per month since we use gas for heat. Here's the last 6 amounts and dates:
