I was running about 50/50 between dismissals for a stomach bug/nasty cold last week. Haven't heard any influenza + cases in my area yet. A kid would come in complaining of a stomach ache and I would immediately ask if anyone else at home was sick. "Um, yeah, my mom has been throwing up for 3 days." Off you go!! Don't breathe on anyone!!!! Don't touch anything!!!

Last week was finals week, too. It's been rough.

Mine is also 15%, which I use myself to measure a possible school outbreak. We came close to it a couple of years ago with one of those 24-48 stomach bugs (not noro, thankfully), but were able to contain it to one grade thanks to some cleaning advice from my public health department.

We had 12% last year and I made the mistake of calling my HD to say i'm having them do x, y and z do it doesn't get to 15% but they came in like gangbusters anyway and wanted me to do daily surveillance sheets and report to them every morning. It was a total pain. Now i'm committed to just doing my own interventions and NOT involving them unless i'm at a hard 15%. I think they don't have enough to do and look for work.

It was an interesting conversation with them, but I get you. I was at like 14.2% (and 40% of one grade was reporting symptoms), so I called. Surveillance is ugh.

Right. I mean i thought i'd just get some constructive ideas and the teeth to tell the custodians to break out the bleach, which they seem to have an aversion to. Instead the director of the HD came swooping in with a stack of forms and a huge grin. I guess this was a chance to justify his title
