U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

Hey I have some interviews next week at different hospitals. I am a new RN grad with 3 years LPN experience. I have an interview at:

Jewish neuro

Nortons OR

U of L 8 and 5 south, im guessing med surge

St marys step down tele

I live here but i dont know which hospitals offer the best for new grads, are the best place to work, the pay scale, weekends only schedule, benefits, pay premiums. Any information on the hospitals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for your detailed information on each facility. When I was recently in Louisville, my family drove me around the city showed me some of the hospitals in the area. They didn't know too much about the working environment or who knew anyone who worked at the Louisville hospitals. I know that there are also a few facilities in southern IN as well that I may look into. But again thank you, this information will be very helpful.

SoIN hospitals Clark Memorial and Floyd Memorial are both good facilities, prefer Floyd, but everyone has own preferences. I've done prn at both as well

It is so nice to hear that you are happy with your job. That is great. I do have another question for you or anyone else following and I hope I am not bugging you too much. What do you think the job market is like in Louisville/SoIn? How easy is it to get a job in one of the main hospitals. I assume most places need nurses but you know what happens when you assume. I have my BSN and 15yrs of med/surg experience under my belt. I would love to transition to the OR (if I stay in the hospital setting) but I realize that's not likely to happen without OR experience or getting your foot in the door. Would you suggest applying to directly to the hospitals or via Indeed? I ask because, I feel like I am not finding a lot on Indeed......Thanks again for any info. you can provide.

I would say the job market is very good. Norton just had a New Grad job fair last week. If they are hiring new grads, then they need nurses. Kosair Children's Hospital has openings also.

I feel a little better hearing that. It would be horrible to get there and not be able to find a job. I will be staying with family temporarily but I don't want to wear out my welcome. Thank you again for the info.

Very helpful information on this thread, thanks to all.

I'm currently working a travel assignment at Baptist. There are definitely people leaving for Norton but nobody seems to be able to say why. They're about to switch from McKesson to Epic so some are dreading that "go-live" process. I've heard a few complaints about managers. My general (limited) feeling is that a few people left and it opened the flood gates. It's easier to leave when your friends are leaving (and your unit is short handed as a result.)

Does anybody know about weekend only and/or Baylor programs? Any hospitals in the area still doing those? What about weekend shift differentials?

I've also heard that due to shortages, the KentuckyOne hospitals offer bonus pay for short shifts.

Any additional info on any of these would be much appreciated.

Norton switched to Epic over a year ago. They also made a market adjustment to the pay scale for nurses to retain them last Fall. Baptist is offering sign-on bonuses, which indicates their retention problems. It seems all of the adult hospitals have their issues. Kosair (children's hospital) doesn't seem to have an issue.

Where do you see that Baptist is offering sign-on bonuses?

Hi dixiejoe

I see that you have a travel position at Baptist. I have been talking with someone from Aya about at travel position possibly at Baptist. If all goes well, I will be relocating in April. I wanted to try a travel position first so that I would have time to check out the area and other hospitals. What floor do you work on if you don't mind me asking and would you recommend that hospital? Thanks

I move to a Weekend only (WOW) position next month. I had the option of Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun +1. Not quite Baylor option (pays a $10/hr bonus on top of base rate instead of time ad a half).

It might have been Jewish (Kentucky One). I get confused as to which of the hospitals are Kentucky One.
