Kent State Accelerated Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi!

I just sent in my application for kent state accelerated program for the January 2017 start and was wondering if anyone else had applied here in the past or for this cohort start date????? Would love some advice!!! :)

Got my acceptance this morning too! Congrats!

Congrats!

did not get in over here. So I started searching incessantly for alternatives. I will list them here as I find them. They may or may not help those who also did not get in.

1) Kramer School of Nursing - @ Oklahoma City University....Part tim0 full time, accelerated, accredited, great passage rate, etc...As long as you complete the pre-reqs you get in! No waiting lists, no BS talk about how competitive admissions is, no anxiety of waiting. They take 500 students yearly so they have the capacity to take much more then the average school. Tuition is little less than KSU. If you can't move, then may not work for you. But for some people, they do not mind moving, thus this may be a good fit.

2) I have also been in touch with several ADN bridge to BSN programs not located in Ohio. Will take about 18-20 months to complete this. There is a possibility that I can do all theory online and if I can find my own clinicals in Ohio they allow it. I have been in touch with several small coutry hospitals who are open to allowing me to complete clinicals at their facilities. Not the most efficient route, but the goal gets accomplished nevertheless. Plus, you will be awarded an ADN along the way which allows you to take the RN test and start working quicker than direct entry BSN. This is great for me because I am going to CRNA school and they require 1 years of RN work before considering you. The ADN-BSN bridge allows me to start working as a RN quicker so that by the time I finish the BSN portion, I can actually start CRNA school because I would have been working as a RN a year already. This is better for me vs finishing a direct entry BSN and then working a year as a RN, then applying to CRNA school. So, all depends on your goals.

I'll be back soon with some other alternatives. Never give up!

Hi all

I said I would be back with some alternatives for those who did not get in and I have found some very promising info.

After alot of research I have been able to find a way to reach RN/BSN status in a way that is less expensive and less stressful than the accelerated KSU option

Initially I was frustrated that I had spent so much time completing pre-requisites for KSU accelerated only to be denied admission. So much of their pre-reqs are specific to their school and are not required for other accelerated programs in the area. I felt as if I wasted money taking genetics and algebra when this is not required at other local accelerated programs. However last week I thought of something. I started looking at ADN programs in the area and after mind numbing hours of research I found a community college that has an accelerated ADN program. After reviewing the classes needed to graduate from this program I discovered that I had all but 2 classes and only clinical work left to graduate with an ADN. Of course I made some calls to obtain additional info. I was able to confirm that I am in fact only 2 classes and clinicals away from earning an ADN. The school is not full/competitive, blah blah blah, and I will be starting in January. I will only have to take 2 classes while I am focusing on my clinicals. (Awesome for my time and lifestyle. Still get to vacation often!!) I will then take test and obtain my RN. Next up is a 100% online RN to BSN. These programs are aplenty and most have no wait list and multiple start dates. The one I found lets you take classes in any sequence and at your leisure. All CCNE accredited! While I am enjoying 100% online BSN classes I will be gaining work experience as an RN all the while. Once I graduate with my BSN I will already be an RN with a years worth of experience under my belt and I can apply for CRNA school right away.

It breaksdown like this

KSU Accelerated

intensive 14-17 credit hours per semester for 4-5 semesters. NO life. BURNOUT!!

difficult to work and earn money!

missing time from family!

$25,000 program!!

My workaround

2 classes and clinicals left to earn an ADN (yeay for more vacations!!)

Start working and earning money as a RN immediately (cha ching!!)

Lounge at home and enjoy courses online from just about any RN/BSN program I want...And my employer may pay for it!!

Continue to spend time with family, take vacations, etc because the workload is not crammed and intense

Graduate with a BSN knowing that I already have a years worth of nursing experience and can apply to CRNA school right away (1 year RN work is required prior to starting CRNA school)

2 ADN classes and clinicals = $$2500

Online RN/BSN program = $7500-$10,000 (depending on where I choose to go)

Total time to RN/BSN status = Accelerated ADN: 9 months ..........RN/BSN: 9-12 months = 18-21 months total

Total money spent to get to RN/BSN status = $10,000 - $12,500

Cons

my work around is 5 months longer than KSU accelerated. But so what! 5 months is small potatoes for the money I get to save, the lifestyle I get to maintain, And the professional experience I will be gaining along the way!

Email me if you want details... There is ALWAYS HOPE! And never let one school dictate your future. Life is full of options...

HI Lady2016,

Can you please tell me which Community College are you referring to.

Thanks :-)
