Kennesaw State Uni. Spring 2014 Nursing

Published

Hey!

Has anyone applied to KSU for the Spring 2014 program?

A friend of mine in the program told me that a resume is not a requirement for the mock. maybe it's something new.

Thanks for the info McEm!

I was just reading some online advice. You can google "best time to interview" and read the same articles. I guess it all depends on how they coordinate interviews: does the same person do it all day; do they do multiple interviews all in a row or alternate out the person doing interviews? If it's the same person, they may get interview-fatigue near lunch or by the end of the day. Also, do they "score" you as they go along or compile everything at the end? If it's as they go along, if someone before you gets high scores from them, they're more likely to score you lower even if you did just as well as the other person. However, if they compile at the end, the later interviewees have the advantage of being better remembered...

Sorry, I was not very clear in that post, I did not mean I needed my resume for the mock interview, I meant that she mentioned them being able to see something on my resume during the actual interview. The mock interviewers are apparently not told anything about the actual interview process but I wanted to double check I had not missed an important detail for my application. I had a slight panic moment so thanks for the clarification bethannie! :)

I think we probably had the same interviewer today. She also asked about my resume, in relation to a question she had about my experiences. She said it was ok that I didn't have my resume, and didn't mention that I should bring it to the real interview. I'm going to email her later and ask, as I also had a question if letters of recommendation help or if I shouldn't bother.

Were you the 2 o' clock? I may have seen you as I was leaving. My mock interview was at 1, and Career Services had emailed the wrong person, so I wasn't on her schedule. She was nice, and squeezed me in. I felt like she was distracted though.

No problem! :)

Yes, I was the 2:00 :) I know she was having technical problems with her camera so that might have been distracting for her.

I'm sure everyone here is interested in the answer to the resume/recommendation letter question! Although I do know that the interview process is pretty secretive from what she told me today so she may not know any more than we do.

Yeah, she had trouble with the camera during my interview too, but offered that I could come by tomorrow to watch it, since she got it working today. She also said that we don't have to bring anything extra (resume, letters) to the real interview.

Was y'alls mock interviews in the nursing building? Mine was and nothing was said about resumes. She also seemed to actually know a lot about the nursing interviews which was helpful. You have to ask for a nursing interview.

Yes, it was in Prillaman Hall, and it was with the lady from the Career Services Center Team for the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services. I don't think anyone implied she didn't know anything about the nursing interviews. For me, she said they change things every semester, so it was hard to predict the format or the questions they would be asking. For example, we may be interviewed by a panel or by just a single person. One semester, they might focus more on "attention to detail" while the next it's more about "integrity." But she did say they always ask "why do you want to be a nurse" and "why should we choose you," almost as bookends to the interview.

Here was the best piece of advice she gave me: Think of every quality you think is important in a nurse, then come up with an experience you've had that shows you exemplify that quality. It seems that they now really tailor the interviews to the individual. If you say that "attention to detail" is important for a nurse to have, you had better have a story ready that shows you have that trait. ;)

Hmm...my mock interview is with a man. How was the interview? Did it seems helpful? I don't know why I am nervous about a mock interview.

I found it to be very helpful. I was extremely nervous so it helped having a dry run to not only get the nerves out but to get some feedback. Good luck :)
