Kennesaw State Fall 2011

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I just applied to Kennesaw State's program for Fall 2011. I thought it would be fun to do a roll call to see who else is out there beginning the waiting game!

by the way-my wait list letter stated "Admissions decisions were made based on the information available February 28th, 2011" soooo, can anybody fill me in on what this means? I'm confused-I thought admissions decisions weren't made until after they interviewed us, which was loooooong after Feb. 28th.

I got my letter today, finally--for the traditional program. I actually registered for classes last night though! :)

Congrats to everyone!

Virginia,

Sorry you didn't make it. I couldn't help but notice how good your GPA and TEAS were. Did you apply for both accelerated and traditional? Your stats were way better than mine and I made it into the traditional program. Just something to think about. Good luck to you.

Thanks, Frank. Congratulations to you though! I don't qualify for the accelerated program so I had only applied to the traditional. Either I blew the interview, like I thought I would, or it had something to do with the number of classes that I have remaining and my lack of experience in the field. I've arranged to volunteer at a hospital this summer. Hopefully that will help.

For those of you that interviewed more than once, how similar were your first and second interviews?

Sorry, Virginia. I thought you had applied for the accelerated program. Good call with the hospital volunteering. Good luck in the spring.

Well, maybe it'll be good news for someone on here. I got into the accelerated program but will most likely decline. I've gotten in somewhere else that seems like a better fit for my situation - not 100% settled yet, but pretty likely, so hopefully someone else will get that slot.

Virginia,

I don't think the lack of experience is the reason. That is what school is for. You are not expected to have the experience yet but definitely look at job shadowing. Northside has a program.

I will tell you my interview questions were pretty much the same the second time. My first interview was not as good as I would have liked. Probably the 102 temp had something to do with it. I strongly suggest meeting with F. If you are able to complete more of your classes and make A's before the next round, that will be so helpful for you Pre-reg GPA and possibly your math/science GPA. Remember they are looking at 5 areas each worth 20%.

Overall GPA 20%

Pre-req (12) GPA 20% best of 7

Math/science GPA 20% (5)

TEAS 20%

Interview 20%

So for me, I made an A in micro and that improved both my math and my pre-req GPA. Also, I had to retake the TEAS. Remember, they only accept version 5 now. Not sure what your score was but get it above 85. It will make you more competitive. If you haven't already, buy the book that ATI sells. It has everything you need and definitely brush up on cell stuff.

To prepare for the interview, remember what they asked you this past time. Make a list of all the questions you see on these threads and write out what you want to say. Relate every single question back to how that skill or qualification is essential to nursing. Have personal examples. They don't want generic. You want to stand out from the rest. Hospital volunteering will help. Look online and email and they will set you up to shadow a nurse. This is a great way to weave in some story into your interview and honestly that might lead to more questions about that versus the set questions they ask. If you do email Northside, you literally need to stalk the woman to get an answer. When I say stalk. I mean call, email and call again until she responds.

I hope that helps. Don't give up! God ultimately has our path planned out even though we may want it sooner than later.

Virginia,

I just looked back and your stats are awesome! And you knew the questions they were asking. Definitely just practice, practice practice! And get on the job shadowing immediately, I think that would make it easier for you to discuss things in the interview and I see no reason why you would not get an interview for Spring.

Include your name, tell them you are a nursing student interested in job shadowing, what areas you would like, and to send you information. I can tell you that you will need to be updated on vaccinations and your TB before you would be allowed to shadow. If you have all of that current, you can fax it in. Your TB test must be less than a year old but i know you can get the skin test at KSU clinic for $5.

Just wanted to say congrats to all of you who were accepted into KSU's nursing program! I just graduated from the Accelerated Program at KSU this past week. My fellow nursing students had a similar thread when we were playing the waiting game :) I wish you all the best and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Good luck! :nurse:

so carebear??? how was it? did you enjoy it? were you able to work while going to school?

I was extremely hard, I'll tell you that. I worked until I started the actual nursing classes. A couple students did work during it. Nursing school takes dedication, and I will tell you this, it becomes your life. You will become very close to your fellow nursing students, because they are the only ones who understand what you are going through. I will give you some advice: The exams in nursing school are completely different from anything you have ever done. If any of you have trouble with the first couple of exams, don't beat yourself up. You have to learn how to think like a nurse. Our professors told us this at the beginning of nursing school, and I didn't really understand what they were talking about. Well, after the first test, I figured it out. It takes time to get your mind to critically think, but it will come. So, good luck with everything and enjoy it!

Hey everyone! I just googled this and now I feel retarded that I have been missing out on all of this chat about KSU's nursing program. I just got accepted for this Fall! Is anyone looking for roommates or apartments? I really want to get an apartment but at this point my only option is living in the dorms at university place until I can find a roommate that is on the same page as me when it comes to studying. Congrats to everyone and looking forward to meeting you all :):)

Welcome to the group! I'm looking forward to getting our information about orientation, etc! I'm off this summer before starting in the fall because I'm finished with all my pre-reqs and gen ed stuff but really excited to get started. Can't wait to meet everyone!
