Kennesaw State BSN Summer 09

Published

Hey! I was just wondering if anyone has gone through the interview process at Kennesaw. I have one coming up and was wondering what questions they ask. Also, how is the interview structured? I would appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

...but I'm not calling you "BamBam" or "Knock out" for 5 semesters :) !!! Teri (tj1234)

Hahaha!! You can call me Beth!

I know right. My name is Karen and I am proud to say I am also one of the older students starting this summer turning age 35 in July. We all have so much in common thank God for this thread. Hopefully, we can start a study group together.

We should get a study group together. I am only 21, so looks like I am the young one! I hope I can learn from you all!

So glad to hear I am not the only one with OCD!!! I am holding off on buying any uniforms etc until we have orientation. I don't want to get the wrong stuff. I did go ahead and get the drug calculation book that was mentioned earlier in this thread, though. Study group is a def.!!!!

Hi everyone. Ive been accepted for summer 09 too and have been lurking here for a while. I wanted to thank everyone for all of the useful information you have been posting. Just think about all of the phone calls asking the same questions you have saved Fran from! So, here's my contribution to the discussion. When I dropped off my acceptance form, Fran told me that orientation is tentatively planned for May 8. But we should have letters with more info soon. Karen - I turn 35 in November, so I guess I'm one of the old ladies too. We can sit in the back of the class and complain about our rheumatism and the young whippersnappers up front! By the way, does anyone know how many people they accepted for this semester? Since there is no accelerated track, will the class be bigger? Well, I'm off to gather immunization records and get into a CPR class. Hope to meet you all soon.

Welcome to the thread RJS. Our community is growing, I love it. We definitely need to try to have some fun amid the stress. So make sure to save me a seat in the back with you. I'll be the elderly woman barely making it to class with the glasses hanging off the edge of my nose. Just Kidding. No, we are going to have to find some energy from somewhere, so we can keep up with Beth and the other teenyboppers. My goal is to try to find some time to exercise each day. Hopefully, that will help to ease my stress level and keep my weight down. I have heard the horror stories about the tremendous amount of weight people gain during nursing school. I love this website though there is an entire thread with tips on how to avoid gaining weight during nursing school. :smokin:

Well I'm older than all of you (but not by much)....only I need the front row because of my failing eyes! Welcome RJS...read up on our CPR (above). We are all scheduled to take it on March 28th. It would be great if you could join us.

Never thought about gaining weight! Way to go Karen...add another worry to my growing list!

There are 46 spots in Health Assessment so I think that is our class size. Someone told me it was a smaller class than usual. Teri

Hey all! Just wanted you all to know that you will be wearing uniforms, not scrubs, for the first (Holistic), second (Adult Health), part of third (OB), and final (Senior practicum) semesters. During your Peds rotation, you can wear fun scrubs, for Mental Health and Community, you may just wear street clothes or the uniform, depending on which facility you work. Just a little tidbit of info!

Thanks for the info. I guess we just needed to be patient. My orientation packet came today in the mail with all the uniform information included. I went on the website that we order the uniforms from and they are actually kind of cute we are getting the new contemporary ones. I am so glad, I was worried they would be super ugly. Hey, let me know when you all get your packets. I am totally confused about the drug test/criminal background check. The paperwork says you have to take it during the first semester but not before the first day of class but the deadline says May 18th and class starts May 28th.

I got my packet today, too. I was also confused about the drug test. Whoever asks Fran first...be sure to report back to the rest of us. I spoke with a nurse friend who graduated from KSU in 2003 who told me to purchase the Litmann Cardiac III stethoscope. "Finally 2008": do you have any thoughts on this? What kind did you buy? Apparently this particular one can also be used for pediatrics and we need that when we do our peds rotation.

Did you all see the Fall schedule is out?

I only knew one person with the Littman Cardiac III. It was pretty awesome, that is for sure! But, it is not really needed. I have the Littman Classic SE and it has been great---lots of nurses loved borrowing it, but even so I was one of the few with a stethoscope that fancy. I also know people who bought their stethoscopes from the school store and they were fairly decent....Here's another tidbit of info: When you are learning vital signs, you will have to do a "Check off" of those skills. When you are practicing with your friends or lab partner, use the double stethoscopes that you can borrow in the lab (from the lab assistant). That is what you will use during the checkoff with the instructor, so it is good to get used to being that close to someone else (when your own heart is POUNDING in your ears from nervousness....)
