Keiser (Wolford) CRNA 2019 Applicants

Published

I have applied to Keiser University CRNA program in Naples, FL for 2019.. anyone else planning to or already applied there for 2019? Anyone starting in January 2019? Please do not comment about the school being a "last resort" school as seen in past threads and posts. This thread is intended solely for current and future applicants applying in 2019. If you had interviewed at Keiser before, please provide some insights.

I’m interviewing this week

Congrats! And good luck! I know you’ll do great! Is it for sept or January? Can you let me know how your interview went?

Hey ya'll, I'm currently a student in program, don't be too worried about interview, but study mechanism of action of induction drugs, know how NDNMB and DNMB effect certain diseases like myasthenia gravis, know you're Swann Ganz numbers, and be prepared to think on your feet about what you would do in certain situations that pertain to CRNA like a difficult intubation. Good Luck!

What is the class schedule like so far?

Glad to hear you think it’s a excellent program! :)

Thanks for that information. I am definitely feeling my nerves kick in esp regarding my ability to complete school and whether this decision is the right one. I have a 3 year old and husband and it is a big commitment for sure. Any advice? Will I still be able to see my child?? how manageable is the schedule? Any advice will help. Thanks!!! ?

Hi everyone, I have loved reading everyones feedback and stats.

I am just curious how competitive you guys think my stats are (compared to everyone who has gotten in so far)

RN-BSN in a 24 bed Surgical ICU (recovered open heatr surgeries) for 1 year 2 months, RN for 2 1/2 years total, other experience is in the cath lab putting in IABP, impellas, managing swan ganz, ect.

CCRN

Applied to take my GRE next month

3.45 in undergraduate (not sure what my BSN GPA would be)

A in both chem courses -- B in chem lab

12 hours shadowing, planning on doing more.

I plan to submit my application in July for the January 2020 cohort. Has anyone heard that the January cohort ay be a DNP program? I spoke with admissions today and they said if they get approved January will be DNP and August cohort will be the last MSNA cohort for Keiser. JW if anyone else has anymore info on this.

Thank you all in advance ?

Aspiring CRNA or any other,

This is what I did to get into the program starting Sept 02,2019

8 hour shadowing experience

Work was offering a intro to anesthesia course (took it and I told them I did)

CCRN, CSC

I studied for a month all the drugs and how they worked. I cared more about how the meds affected anesthesia then I did about how they worked.

YOU need to have a firm grasp on pre-load because preload is heavily affected by most if not all anesthesia drugs. You need to understand that anesthesia drugs will lower BP; CVP; preload.

WHAT DRUG IS THE BEST TO USE TO INCREASE BP :Neosynepherine.....WHY? b/c it directly works on the A1 A2 receptors and not B1 or B2. A1 A2 work on the vessels while B1 B2 work on the heart.

During my interview I talked about ASA and induction phases and what I should look for. They did not ask me this. I just incorporated into interview. ON a very basic level.

I wanted to stand out from the rest of you. I did that by talking about the basics of nurse anesthesia. Listen, all of us at this point better know the difference between Dopamine and Dobutamine. BUT I took it a step further and studied what receptors they worked on to better understand how they will affect anesthesia.

I was asked 2 questions, first question was about Na and how it affects anesthesia. Which I had absolutely no idea. AND I TOLD THEM THAT, Do not *** these guys. Some of the smartest CRNA's you will meet will be interviewing you. If you do not know the answer, say so.

Then they asked how preload affects anesthesia. YOU SEE, the instructors believe you should already know what preload is, but did you do your homework on why its important for anesthesia.

Hello Cbmarsh32,

Thank you for taking the time out to give us some feedback. This is very helpful. Thank you so much. One question, why did you chose Keiser’s Program?

BellaICU

Why I chose Keiser!

I know one of the instructors from a class he teaches at the hospital. I found him to be entertaining and interesting

Its a know fact that the school recently went through a name change and possibly even might lose accredation. If they expect dedication from me then i expect dedicatio 2 the students. They showed that by making changes to excel

last graduating class had all 32 peeps make it through. That tells me the school does what it can to help students excel.

This is incorrect. While Keiser University has taken over from Wolford, the school met all their re-accreditation requirements and actually has accreditation through more bodies than it ever did in the past. Those issues are over.
