Is keeping a part-time job while going to nursing school a bad decision?

Several of my class mates have part-time jobs. You just have to be really well-organized regarding study time, because nursing programs are a full-time proposition.

I handle the business end of my wife's animal hospital and split the time with our newborn 50-50 and I have been able to maintain my high GPA. Doing other things besides school can be done, but it takes time management. Feel it out, if you can't do both don't wait to long to to make a change. It's hard to catch up with the material when so much comes at you so fast.

Yup, I did a min of 30 hours a week the whole time and graduated among the top of my class. You do have to keep up with everything but it is very doable. Good luck to you!

Most people have to work while going to school-many worked full time jobs. It is harder as adults to decide not to work at all because of obligations to spouses, children and bills. If there is a will, there is a way-but just be sure that you don't fall back on your studies!

It can be done. I work nights full time and go to nursing school full time, you just have to prioritize and motivate yourself :).

I'm nervous about working full-time and going to school full time at night. I have two kids and a husband whose schedule is very hectic. He states he supports me and I know he does but I'm still nervous. I originally wanted to go to school full-time and not work but I have responsibilities. I just need to know how to set my study time and I pray I have the energy to keep up. I work from 8a-5p M-F and my classes will be Mon 5:00p-7:30p Tues 5:00p-9:30p Wed 5:00p-7:00p Thurs 5:00-9:30p Saturday 7:00a- 1:15pm Sunday 7:00a-1:15pm. My son will be starting High school and my daughter will begin 3rd grade. Any suggestion for an energy?
Maybe you can arrange to work only part time? As it is, I can't see how you can work until 5:00 and be in school at the same time. (Several of my professors won't allow late-arriving students into the classroom.) Also, the rest of your weekends will probably be spent studying; when will you get to see your kids?

I am starting my 2nd degree (ADN) this fall and plan on working full time through the whole thing...
I need to make $1500 min. per month to make it and I plan on doing so.
I do only have 7 hours (2 classes plus clinicals) the first semester but that takes up 3 days out of the week.
I am planning on working a night job during those 3 days and maybe another job on other days.
I think I will make it, its takes heart and dedication, something I have plenty of luckily.
I'm not sure when I will see my kids. I'm trying to prepare them for what is ahead but its hard because I'm not sure my self. I know I will have to rearrange my work hours however I can not cut back any hours. Are there any suggestions on how to prepare for studying, like things I should purchase now to help get me organized.

I work full-time at a casino from 6pm-230am. My school hrs are Mon 9am-130pm, Tues and Wed 7am-3pm. For a week at the end of the class, clinicals are 5 days from 7a-3pm. I have a husband (Thank G*D for him), a 14 year old (he is starting high school this year), and a set of 10 1/2 year old twins. I cook dinner maybey once a week, but I make sure to wake them up with a warm breakfast. Quick dinners are the best, but hubby cooks for the kids often. I take a multi-vitamin and can't drink coffee (it makes my tummy say "WHAT THE....:dzed: " ) I drink a little diet Pepsi every blue moon. Tell the kids that you Love them often. Procrastination was my best friend and I had to change that; it was so difficult.Sleep when the kids aren't at home. I also nap and study at work so that I am not as tired when I get home. No T.V (although Scrubs and Forensic Files are two of the best shows ever; as I do miss them). The bottom line is that it can be done. If nursing is your dream, then you could make it possible. It is very tough, but it is Soooo worth it. I hope that this helps..
Good Luck

It can be done. I worked full-time while in school full-time. It sucked, and I had no social life, but I did it. It was so worth it. My friends understood how important it was for me.
