What can I do To be more competitive. I have My year of ICU. (I know The more years the better). I’m CCRN, ACLS, Pals..the norm. I have A masters degree with the last 60 hours of 3.9. I have An A in statistics. B in chemistry. I have all the advanced sciences in my masters degree. I’m retaking the GRE for > 300. Ive had someone look over my CV and Personal statement and said it was great. I’m going to try and take a couple more undergrad sciences. Shadowed 40 + hours. A preceptor. What else can I do?
Your post started out by saying, "you keep getting rejected." But if you only have one year of experience, you have only done one year of applications. That pretty much is telling you there is a problem. Most people can have one hole in their application (which was stated earlier), but you have 2. One can be easily fixed by getting more experience, which will also make you a stronger SRNA and a stronger CRNA. If you feel like the ICU in which you currently work has taught you everything you can learn about the critically ill patient, than it is clearly not the right ICU. I doubt that is actually the case. Put in your time, and things will happen.

Thank you for the encouraging words.
I agree with BigPappa! I started applying at the one year mark (just to one school) the next year I applied to two schools, managed to get a waitlist but not in, next year I applied to 6 schools and got in. There are people on here that will get in somewhere with one year experience, but many that won't. Keep working, and cast a bigger net next time. When I was accepted I had just over 3 years of experience and 3.5 when I started school. You'll get there if you want it!
I am trying to make a light-hearted silly comment so PLEASE don’t take this as me being mean. When I first read your post my thought was: “How can you be more competitive? Learn to use capital letters correctly!” ? But I don’t have any actual advice, I’m sorry, and good luck. You’ll get there, just keep your eye on the prize.

You are trying to be competitive? For a management position? In getting a new job?
You do have a stellar portfolio. Just be sure that you are constantly aware as to who are you competing against- it isn't with your peers or colleagues, but with yourself. Good luck on your future endeavors and never stop learning.

I understand, that wasn't clear on the OP. That being said, I do agree with some posts that at least 2 years of ICU will make you a competitive candidate for a CRNA program. A co-worker of mine boosted his resume by adding ED experience as well. He got in CSU Fullerton CRNA program with about 7 yrs of ICU and ED experience. CCRN plus CEN. Good luck.

Program directors get tired of people with 1 year of experience asking what they should do. The answer is obvious.
