Kaplan versus Nclec Questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi Everyone,

My question is for anyone who took Kaplan cource and also took Nclex RN as well. I want to know if the questions for Nclex are similar to Kaplan's questions or not? I mean as far as pattern and concept matters because I beleive that Kaplans questions are pretty hard as well. Any input will be appreciated, Thanks & Blessings.

Thanks all for all the input. I really appreciate it.

ncsbn.com has questions

its 50 bucks they write nclex questions

I took Kaplan but wouldn't swear by it. I think I would have been ok with Saunders (love that book) and maybe some of the other things that are out there. The reason I say that is because I was really excited about some of the strategies they taught me but when it came to taking the test I found I didn't use any of the strategies. The questions were way more difficult than that. But, that's just me. I passed the first time and so who knows if I would have had the same success had I not taken Kaplan. All I know is that I didn't apply the strategies I was taught by Kaplan during the test at all.

I have to agree ... I think the decision tree they teach is only useful to some extent because it doesn't apply to a lot of questions.

But, quite frankly, the decision tree didn't apply to a lot of Kaplan questions either. The most useful thing about Kaplan was the questions themselves because, at least in my case, they were very close to the exam.

I used all of kaplan's resources and did not pass. none of the questions i had on the nclex came on the exam. i utilized al the strategies but still was not able to pass. i thought i had passed when it shut off at 75 but when i found out i failed i was shocked i thought i had the correct answers. anyways good luck.

I used Kaplan's resources and still failed. i thought i knew the contents and the strategies that they provided for me. i reviewed all the question trainer and rationales. i don't understand what happened. please if someone know how i can use any strategy to pass please help. i really i'm down.

I notice you're from Canada .... were you educated in the U.S.? Because from what I understand, the test is obviously a lot tougher for students/nurses who weren't educated in the states.

my two cents:

Took kaplan...wasn't all that impressed. The only thing I learned was about the delegation questions since we didn't have those type of questions in my 2 year associate program. I never got higher then a 58% on their tests. I signed up for the ncsbn.com and would say that those questions are more alike to the actual nclex questions. Passed yesterday so take it for what it's worth :)

I took the Kaplan review and while I didnt like the actual "in class" portion of it I found the Qbank very helpful. It sets up questions that you can narrow down to 2 answers that both sound completely correct. And they drill into your head its the "BEST" answer for the given situation. VERY much like the real Nclex. I did Saunders questions and found that they are much too easy. I didn't see a question on Nclex that was remotely like Saunders. One book that I did like alot for content was Delmars Nclex review and Practice questions. The questions are a higher level than Saunders and covered more unfamiliar content. Hope that helps. Good luck

Some 2 cents from this direction now:

I thought Kaplan was great because of the instructor that I had. She did of course just go over questions like all of them do, but her explanations of the rationales were clear and it did help me pass NCLEX. That said, I think that just going over as many questions as you possibly can is the way to go. I had a technique that I used where I would go over questions with a non-nurse who was forced to use real critical thinking skills in order to answer the questions....fyi...he always had a good percentage of answers that were correct. And it helped me because when he was wrong it forced me to "teach" and tell him why I chose what I chose. For me, explaining the question helps me to remember concepts.
