Published

Has anyone heard word they've been accepted to Kaplan's ADN program in San Diego for the Jan 2010 start? Just found out today that I'm in! Looking forward to hearing from future classmates!

You should call, because orientation is jan 6 and there's a list of thing to be done prior to that. You would have heard by now already. Call your counselor.

Hi,

I was wondering for the students that start Kaplan in January..Is it true that the program is now 24 months? and if so? is the LVN to BSN just as long?

Hi,

It's 24 months if you have pre-reqs to do. They require you to have them all done before starting the nursing curriculum. So if you have some but not all done your first quarter will just be lighter, if you have them all done you go straight to the nursing courses. So, like for me I still have to do my science, I will be doing that between Jan and May, then I start Nursing courses in May. Total = 24 months.

Oh, and as far as I know in San Diego, they only have an LVN to RN, not an LVN to BSN program. They have an online RN to BSN though.

Thanks for the info emily. I was also curious. I have completed pretty much all of my general ed stuff for an associates. Do you know if that will affect my acceptance? I know that when it was Maric they were accepting people with less course work done. The counselor did tell my that they give more points for associate degrees and BS towards the applicant, but I was curious if it is true..I mean it is a for profit school, so that would make more sense to get accept people with less completed courses...sorry for the long questions btw.

Um, well I don't think it affects your acceptance at all. I have it all done with the exception of 3 courses and was still accepted. There was people accepted that had it all done, so in my opinion I don't think it effects it. They use a point system and your teas score then pick top 50 each quarter to start. If u don't have a&p done at least u won't start clinicals until ur second quarter.

O ok. I scored an 84.7 on my teas so I hope its competitive enough. My counselor said I needed an 85 to be competitive. I finished all my science and core classes already but I do not have an associates for general education because I was trying to wait to get into RN program at community college. I am number 59 on the waitlist for Southwestern college. They say they only accept 5-15 people a year. So that is why I am taking this route instead..So I hope I can make it into the May start date. So we shall see.

I scored an 81%, I have a BS in Business and have everything done BUT the Science courses, and I got in. No medical experience. So, you never know. My counselor told me that I needed to have a 95% to be competitive so I thought I wasn't going to get in, and I did. I was VERY surprised when I was selected.

Wow..Your giving me great hope already... I made it to the 90% percentile so I hope that's what you mean by 95%. I was looking at the averages of teas scores and they seem to be around 80%. Well I will go to the school on Monday to get more information. I still have to do the calculations test. Also I have to see if my counselor is still there. I called her but she never returned my message.

My original counselor told me I needed to score a 95% on my TEAS, she also told me a bunch of other wrong information. I requested another counselor only to find out I had been misinformed about a lot of things. I am not sure what happened but the original counselor I had no longer is employed there *shrug* I know they also go by GPA, I had a 3.6 in college, and 4.0 in all the Pre-Reqs I had completed for the program; they take into consideration a lot of factors when making decisions. The DON supposedly selects the class all on her own plus 10 alternates.

Oh wow, well thanks for the information. I shall see monday.

Hi guys. I don't know if this is an option or not for those of you wanting to get into the RN at Kaplan. If you don't you could always take the LVN program in Vista and then your 2nd year you can bridge to Kaplan in San Diego. Just a thoght. The PN program you DO NOT need any medical experince. You only take the HESI, if you pass your in. Easy peasy!

Hi,

I'm actually already an LVN. I took mine at Grossmont health occupation center a few years ago for free. It depends on your income, but I think the most it will cost you is less than $3,000 now. It used to be $2000. Its ROP. I thought it was a great program. You get what you put into it. And there is no waitlist. You just have score high on the entrance exam.
