hi there

What I did was I used the book and watched the video to review the content at the same time. After I completely finished all the online videos, I started doing the questions, trained question and question bank. Make sure to read all the strategies in the first page and apply them to answer the questions. When you do the question bank, try to do 100 questions per day first. A week before the NCLEX, try to do 150 questions per day. BTW, Do you need the NCLEX-4000? cuz I have it.

If you could get to 60-70% of correct answer every time, that means you're ready to take the NCLEX.

hope this helps

thank you so much! I feel so nervous because I might have to take NCLEX in a month and I dont feel ready so any advice you might have it will help me big time!

what do you refer to when you say all the startegies on the first page? did you use any other book?

I do not have NCLEX4000 ...is it only questions?> thank you so much for your help

Thanks!

In the Unit 4 of the Kaplan book, which will be sent to you shortly via mail after you registered for the Kaplan online course, you will see the Kaplan decision tree includes ABC, Maslow fit, what it does is to help you develop a strategy and you're gonna use this strategy to figure out the correct answers.

The NCLEX 4000 has a lot of questions, I think more than 5000 questions, which I think easier than the Kaplan questions, it's more about the content. and you should use it with the Kaplan to practice daily. If you could get 80-90% of correct answers from the NCLEX 4000, it means you're ready to take the NCLEX.

Here is a head up for you:

Focus most on:

1, Priority: which pt you should see first or which pt is most unstable.

2, Precaution: airbone, droplet, standard, contact....CDC is a great resource to learn about precautions. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

3, Delegation: highly recommend the book by Linda lacharity, although I didn't use this book, others people recommend it

4, Math: mcg/kg/min

VIETGUY, thank your for you advice. I am applying your tips to my study. However, I am only averaging 50% on the q bank questions. Very depressed bc I kinda have a job line up but I need to pass the N-clex in 2 weeks. My score is not improving. Dont know what else to do within 2 weeks to improve it. Have any suggestions?

Hi there,,,

I am just done with nclex.. Stop at 75 and took me one hour!!!

I personally think Kaplan it a waste of money unless ur comfortable with all the contents..and you need some perspective about the type of questions on the nclex otherwise it a waste of ur valuable time and money.. 3 hours for sixty questions for 10 days.. Because they only go over questions only!!!

My recommendation is excel review..10 days 80 hrs contents only.. I did the review and spend two more wks... I can tell u that all of the contents cover from the review were on my test...i almost know every questions...

Hope that help

Sorry to hear that you're struggling...I think Kaplan mainly focuses on the strategy, so that means you must learn how to eliminate each incorrect answer based on ABC, assessment > Implementation, Maslow...but it doesn't teach you much about the content. If you have troubles to figure out the correct answers because you never heard it before or lack of nursing basic knowledge, then re-watch the video or look up the infor in the Kaplan book.

Here is the Kaplan strategy book that I used, this book will give you all the strategies of how to answer the NCLEX questions,

I highly recommend, you can buy it at Barn and Noble or Border or Amazon.

Amazon.com: Kaplan NCLEX-RN 2010-2011 Edition: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Kaplan Nclex-Rn Exam) (9781419553448): Barbara J. Irwin, Judith A. Burckhardt: Books

In the Kaplan QB practical test, there is a study mode that allows you to see the rationales, so read all the rationales of each question, make sure you understand it. If you don't understand it, look it up in the Kaplan book.

Since the Kaplan question bank is limited and more about priorization, you can use the NCLEX4000 together with the Kaplan because the NCLEX4000 is more testing about the content, which I posted above in my earlier post.

vietguy thank you ...you are awesome

I was wondering if you used the kaplan book that came with the review course? the RN course book???

until you've mentioned the other one I was thinking I would use the course book ...please tell us how your approach was.....did you do a chapter a day ? etc....then when you finished the chapters you've started practicing questions?

also please let me know if you've used both Kaplan books?

yea, i used the Kaplan book, the RN book and watched the review online videos along together. Each day, i tried to finish 1 video and 1 unit of the book. There are more than 10 review videos , so it took me like 1-2 weeks to finish all of them. In my third week, I started doing the questions, 100 questions per day, I read all the rationales of either right or wrong answers, there is a study mode in the Kaplan question bank questions that allow you to see the rationales, im not sure if you know that?. then in the final week before the test, I did 150 questions per day with the NCLEX4000. If there was anything I didn't understand, I looked it up in the Kaplan RN book. The Kaplan only taught me about strategy, the decision tree, so made sure i was able to use it every time I did the practical questions. Beside using Kaplan, I also used the Saunder book because it has great content...everything you need, it has all. But remember, nursing knowledge is huge, you really can't learn everything, but make sure you know the basic nursing knowledge. I can tell you that the NCLEX questions are about the same questions you see in the Kaplan QB questions...I think I put like 8-12hrs per day to study every day, so I think if you want to pass it in your 1st attempt, then put more effort, make your life into a study mode. Since English is my second language, I think you could do fine

The book I mentioned above is more about priority and delegation, which you willl see a lot of priority and delegation questions in the NCLEX, and a lot of people here have successfully passed the NCLEX by using it.

thank you...English is my 2nd language too....

I wish I could study 8-10 hrs a day but I have little kids so it becomes morelike 5 hrs or so....but I will try to do as much as could

thank you for your great advice!
