Kaplan questions

Published

Hello. I am taking nclex for the 3rd time and signed up with Kaplan. Does anyone know if their q bank questions are all passing level, or just all their questions in general? From taking nclex before they are the closest to the test that I have seen. Hoping its good prep. Thanks!

Kaplan is good a choice :) i find the nclex test questions somehow similar to how they deliver it. Although i feel like the rationales are not enough because it seems more focused on test taking strategies, and also Kaplan is more useful and if you already have a good foundation of content. I also have the content book and it's also not enough. If you want in depth rationale or for content, try Saunders. Saunder's comprehensive is also good if you have topics that are not familiar with. You may also try UWorld. I tried the trial version of questions and it was good. I was surprised with how the rationale was compared to Kaplan.

I totally agree!

Telling me I'm going to be retaking it for a 4th time isn't exactly encouraging. My husband had to take me to the ER last night becuSe after I read this I had a sever panic attack. I am 7 months pregnant and can't take my anxiety medication. I failed the first time a year ago because I was pregnant then too and was in the same situation. I failed the second time because my stress isn't able to be controlled and I spent the 3 days before the test in and out of the ER for pregnancy complications and the day of the test my car wouldn't start and was late because I had to fine a ride. U world did prepare me. But maybe it needed a confidence booster and I wasn't getting it from U world . If Kaplan is giving me the confidence and stress relief that I need to pass this then encouraging that and not judging me before you know my situation would be a better idea then telling me I'm going to fail again because I'm not following what worked for everyone else .

What propelled you to go into a nursing career when you are not able to handle your stress and have to be taken to the ER? You are aware I'm sure that the nursing job itself is stressful - patients you will be dealing with are in a life and death situation.

If you can't even handle a simple NCLEX exam, how more will you handle caring for a dying or critical patient??? Ugh!!

You need to get your anxiety under control first. If a message board thread sends you to the ED with a panic attack then no commercial program is going to help you until you help yourself.

You need to create a targeted study plan. Forget the resources others used. Take your three candidate performance reports and analyze them. Are you improving? Were you above passing the first but below passing in the third? (This indicates over thinking and anxiety not prep) Do you have a strong content knowledge base? Are you a US graduate? Have you gone back to your nursing school for assistance? Do you not understand rationales? Are you stuck on content knowledge? Are you second guessing your responses due to lack of confidence and anxiety?

You need to ADPIE

Assess your CPR to determine strengths and weaknesses

Diagnose what areas you need to work on: rationale, practice nclex questions, reinforce core content, test taking strategies, understanding delegation and alternate format questions

Plan for success: different methods have different focus. Hurst is more content. UWorld and Kaplan are more test taking strategies. Kaplan assumes you are strong in nursing knowledge. PDA is application and delegation for planning and thinking like a nurse.

Implement your targeted study plan

Evaluate your readiness and pass the nclex.

Did you read anything I just said or did you just decided to attack me. I don't owe you an explanation on anything in my life especially if you are going to come on here and degrade me and basically tell me I shouldn't be a nurse. How did you pass because your therapeutic communication sucks.,

I'm really sorry catmom713. Do what is best for you, you are the best judge of your testing abilities. If you are American educated, then chances are they have statistically high 85% chance of passing.

I was internationally educated, so Kaplan was greatly lacking in information. I even had to use LaCharity.

If you are stressed during the exam, take deep breathing techniques. It helped it a lot because my heart was pounding throughout the test.

There must be a way to control your anxiety. What if you are already a nurse? How will you deal with everyday stressful situation? What if you saw a hemorrhaging patient, a charred burned paitent, amputated body parts? Will you be then taken to the emergency department often because you cannot handle the stress? You read a forum statement that you felt was not favorable, then you were taken to the ED?

Good luck and all the best on your next NCLEX attempt.

So you were pregnant the first time you took the test and failed (not on anxiety meds). Now you are studying to take it again, while pregnant again. Why don't you postpone NCLEX until you are no longer pregnant and back on your anxiety meds? Seems to me that you need those meds to help you study more efficiently.

Have the baby, recover, restart your meds, reschedule the test 4-5 weeks after that point. You are in no position to study for the test. What is the rush?

Try and look at the test plan on NCSBN and make sure you have a fair idea on EACH topic because you can never know the kind of questions you going to meet that day. Good luck!
