Kaplan Online ADN - South FL

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if anyone is currently in the online adn program at the south fl Kaplan campus? I have read quite a bit about it on the forum, but when I try to call or use the chat through Kaplan, no one seems to have any information on it. I would like to know what the program is like and if anyone knows when the next start date is, as well as how to contact someone about the program. Thanks for any help!

Yes it exist. I am one of the 20 students accepted into the ADN program. We start next Wed 9/22. It's a hybrid program. I've heard some ups and downs about the program. I do see some differences in their program vs say Broward/Miami College (its more intense than KU).

However, they will teach you everything you need to take the NCLEX RN. It is a very flex program and clinical are MANDATORY on weekends (if you miss more than 1, you're out of the program!)

That's all I know for now, but if you have any other questions, I'll be happy to help you out as best as can!

Good luck!

I am also in the program and will be starting my third clinical rotation next week. You can contact Chairman **** at the Pembroke Pines location and he will direct you to the right person.

How are you guys liking the program? I am considering applying for this program. : ) Thanks for your input!

@ Whitehat187,

I am so far enjoying the program. I haven't take AP classes but I am currently doing so. My clinical/labs won't start until Dec. But the program is going through some changes - for the better. If you live in South Florida area, go ahead and apply.

Good luck!

Yes, the program has a new chairmen and are going through some needed changes that will benefit the incomming students mostly, but its a real headache to be a current student going through last minute changes in the middle of the program. The program is no longer just clinicals one day a week on the weekend. There are also manditory on campus labs, midterms, and finals that one must attend on the weekday. I am ok with this, but it sucks for people who are already in the program who work full-time and have kids. Also, the term has been extended and on campus manditory meeting have been changed right in the middle of the semester so I would reccomend this program for the student that is more flexible with work schedule and life until they work out the kinks as this is a new program and we are all guinea pigs.

Hi PrincessO,

I am currently in the program. What times is the ADN school trying to enforce ...is it during the week in the evenings? Day times? And what do you mean by extending the term has been extended? No longer 10 weeks?

Thanks for the headsup. I know they're going thru changes however I am only in 1st term and just want to be prepared of 'coming attractions'

Thanks!

Hello. I am a student in the online ADN program at Kaplan University. I started classes September 22 online. SO YES there is a program. I am in my first two courses. I don't know exactly when I will start clinicals though.

Anyone that's interested in learning more about the program, no one better to ask than students themselves. There is an 'unofficial' facebook page for Kaplan nursing students in FL. Feel free to ask any and all questions there.

Good luck!

I would like to know what the schedule is like from a current student. They make it seem like a working person could handle the schedule because most things are on nights and weekends, but is that what the schedule is really like?? Also, is it true that you can only take one clinical class at a time??

Thanks,

Alana

I am a student in this program now. I am one of the students who is at the end of the program. Do not take anything that this school says for face value. I regret being in this program greatly. I am at the end of the program only to be told that I haven't recieved the hours and education I was suposed to recieve. Now they are scrambling to cram two years of missing curriculum and all of the information they failed to giive me in ten weeks. If I could transfer my creditis and finish at Broward College or Dade College I would. I have been through so many changes and ups and downs that the name Kaplan repulses me. I was once optimistic and excited about this program but they have not held thier promises or end of the bargain. To think ...all of this trouble only to be a graduate of a school with a 50% board passing rate and no accrediation. Procede with great caution when thinking about this school. Get everything and I mean EVERYTHING in writing. The best advice of all that I wish would have recieved myself would be to save yourself the extra 30,000 + in loans and go to a community college. Look up Kaplan University and thier recent article about the the pembroke pines campus and not being allowed to accept more students for certain programs.

I am in the same position as you and have the same exact feelings toward the program. I knew from the beginning the program was not accredited but we were always told it would be shortly and not to worry. Now that I am finishing up with the program, I find out that there are several states which would not allow my RN license (If I do obtain one) to endorsed until the program is accredited. I wish I would have known that from the start, my whole intent was once I finish school to move out of the state.

Another thing with the school not being accredited is that we woud have a very difficult time trying to transfer these credits if we wanted to further our education. Im so frustrated at this point.

Sorry to hear that things doesn't sound like it's going well. It is unfortunate and NOT a cheap education at KU. I do hope that does change asap for new and incoming students such as my self.

How do you feel about taking the NCLEX - are you prepared? And what do you mean by cramming 2 years of missing curriculum into 10 weeks? What were you learning or what were they teaching all this time? Again hope this all changes for better and really in the end you gain the education needed to be a successful nurse.

On another note, if you complete your BSN at Kaplan which is nationally accredited (CCNE) and you can, then, transfer to just about any school and state.

Good luck!
