Kaplan or Hurst NCLEX-RN review which one is better?

Need some opinion before I spend my hard earn $$ for NCLEX-RN review. Kaplan or Hurst review which one is better:confused: How did you study for the big exam? I think I bought too many review books and now I'm so overwhelmed:crying2:

Hi Chloe,

Well, here's my 2 cents. I hated Kaplan!!! Used it twice & failed twice (1st @ 265, 2nd @ 135). Went my own way with Davis 2010 Q&A, Linda LaCharity's PDA, & the infection control mnemonic on this website. Passed on the 3rd attempt @ 75.

Kaplan is good if you can afford it, but rest assured you absolutely do NOT need it to pass. The strategies are nothing you can't find in other books (i.e. Davis 2010). I liked that book because the questions are more in-depth than Kaplan & the actual NCLEX. PDA is a necessity for NCLEX as is the IC mnemonic.

Didn't use Hurst, so can't vouch for it. All the best!

Which is better depends upon the person using both reviews.

I did Kaplan for my GRE. I did better on my diagnostic test then on the actual GRE.

Hello All,

I graduated September 27th, 2011 from a 15-month accelerated program and I am absolutely excited about starting the Hurst Online Review. I have been hearing a vast amount of good things about Hurst and I thank you all for making my decision to choose Hurst. I feel like my personality fits well with Hurst review versus Kaplan.

I am an upbeat and optimistic person who needs friendly engagement (Marlene Hurst's lecturing) to keep me interested and not bored out of my mind (doing Kaplan questions all day).

My school offers Kaplan for free but yet, I feel that all it is...is questions, questions, questions. Plus, using the "Decision Tree" does not help me with SATA questions.

I plan to take my boards mid-November! Wish me luck!!! :lol2:

Can someone link to the IC mnemonic or repost it please?

Thanks

Hurst has pharmacology, test taking strategies, online resources, NCLEX style test questions, critical thinking core content review..it has it all. It is so fun and interactive. I've heard that a lot of students take the review a semester early and then they repeat it again for free. That is pretty cool!

There were students that took Kaplan and Hurst..they were at the school at the same time. Kaplan was very dry and it went on and on...Hurst's package had everything I needed. My friend said she took her book to her first nursing job and used it all the time. They give you just the right amount of information. The instructor was great! So energetic she was a nurse for many years and really knew her stuff. I loved it!! Hurst is very affordable and they don't pressure you into registering on the spot...I appreciated that I need to time to make my decision. Kaplan said I had to sign up that day or it would be a higher price...

Hurst has been around for a long time..they have a payment plan which was awesome!

Hurst is for students who like to be active in their learning. They really ask you a lot of good questions. You can't sit and not talk. Hurst says if you can say it you can pass it. I sat through the presentation for Kaplan and the lady said this is all we do day after day in the class...question after question..day after day...

I like that Hurst includes NCLEX questions, test taking skills, a money back guarantee and core content all in one review. I can buy a NCLEX study book if I want, but I think it is important to understand all of those difficult concepts we learned in nursing school. I really like how they explain Acid/Base..they are using cool animation now too. The instructors were very helpful when questions were asked. The online questions were great too!

I used Hurst first and did not pass. They do a guarantee but so far I have not heard from them when I sent my results when I did not pass. I am doing ATI Now.
