Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.
Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!
I also applied and was supposed to start ADN program at Kaplan, but Shepherd University ADN is cheaper than Kaplan so I changed my mind. Lived in San Diego, but plan to move in LA. Everything is related to money and +100.000 debt is very stressful.. Shepherd ADN is much less than +100.000...
Prdysailor,
I think the hours change based on that portion of the program your in… as far as I've heard that is. My councilor told me to expect 8-530, but that there will be some variation. I know people that went through the program before it changed to the new format and they said it was not set. *I'm not positive about this though
Hi CalemoEKG and EMThalvy,
I just applied and turned it all my paperwork. I got an 81.2 on the TEAS, 31 on the Wonderlic, and 10 months experience as a Patient Care Technician/Caregiver. Hope I get in, and that you guys get in too!! I know if I get accepted though, I might start in the 2nd semester b/c I have my pre-req's done. Keeping fingers crossed!
I am in my first term in the Kaplan ADN program and the hours really depend on what classes you have. Most days I am done by 1 but some classes are late in the evening. I don't have any classes on Fridays. All my pre-req's were too old to transfer, so I am taking them all thru Kaplan.
Hope that helps. :)
Hi 2013, thanks for the info. My pre-req's are well under the 5 year recency from the college I took them at, so they're going to go through. Either way, it's good because at least you're refreshing your memory and knowledge if re-taking them, that doesn't hurt a bit and in fact helps. How do you like the first term so far? What are your likes and dislikes so far- can you share (I know you are still early in the program)?
Rochelle,
So far I am really enjoying it. I don't feel too overwhelmed but I don't have real nursing classes yet. I was a little worried at first because it is a for-profit college and all the cheesy commercials don't really inspire confidence but the nursing department is really very professional. I like all the professors so far and feel like they really want everyone to succeed but they aren't going to pass someone who doesn't deserve it.
BTW I had less medical experience than you and still got in so don't worry too much.
Good luck!
Sounds good! Thank you for the information. It's good to hear that, as I am a little skeptical also, but what is assuring me is the fact that even though it is private and for-profit, Kaplan is listed on California Board of Nursing's approved programs, so I figure it must be legitimate. I am prepared for the hardwork and the teachers. I understand how they work. My brother is at a vocational school to become an electrician and has blamed the teacher(s) for not passing certain classes when in fact, the teachers just have high standards and you can't pass anything if you don't study and practice. Good luck on your studies and journey! I am glad you like the program and teachers so far. I am also glad they are professional.
