Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.
Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!
I also got accepted into the RN program at Kaplan. Can't wait until May 18. I have to finish math, comm, and microbiology there. But shouldn't be to bad from what I'm told. The program is 24 months long but can be shorten depending on how many prereqs are completed. I have my financial aid meeting tomorrow morning. Hopefully i get some money to pay for part of the school. Anybody else have a meeting with the DON on May 12 @ 4pm??
Hello everyone,
Sorry to say this, but at Kaplan they will not accept anyone with a DUI or any misdemeanor on their record. The only way is to expunge your DUI. They won't even let you in if you have an infraction, unless it is a minor traffic ticket. With infractions they tell you that in order to get that off you have to switch it to a misdemeanor then expunge it. You can try other schools though. But this is what I know about Kaplan. Hope this helps. If you want to verify my information, just go speak with the Director of Nursing or an admissions staff member. Good luck. Oh also they do their backround checks through American Data bank and I think they only go back 7 years, so if it was past 7 years ago, you might have a chance, if not expunge it.
Hey,
The other schools that offer the RN program are NU-National University. You have to do their pre reqs first which is about 7-8 months, the TEAS, and an essay. Then they let you know if you are accepted or not. Which I do not think is right. OH and NU offeres the BSN. It will take you about a year before you get accepted, IF you get accepted. Then you have the community colleges like: Southwestern, Grossmont, The one down town (forgot the name). I called Grossmont and they seemed like they would work with you more on the backround thing whereas Kaplan wouldnt. Also I think the waitlist has shortened, there is not a long wait. Then you got SDSU, and California State University San marcos. I think there are a few other schools like azusa and another religious ones I did not look to much into. But you can do your own research. The route I finally chose to take, which I would have chosen the grossmont route if I did not choose this way, is I went ahead and started school to get my bachelors in Respiratory Therapy. Then from there I am going to take the accelerated bachelors of science in nursing. They offer this program at only 2 schools: Nu, and California State. It is a program that allows anyone with a Bachelors of any Degree, to take and can become a nurse. It is about 15 months long. As long as you have a Bachelors you can take it and you finish with Bachelors in Nursing. So while I am in school for Respiratory that can give me time to clear up whatever I need. Then I can take the Accelerated BSN. Plus I'll have my Bachelors in RT and Nursing. So I am happy with this route and how it turned out. Hope this helps Medbro.
