Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

I'm lost now. Since I took the Teas 4 time...does that mean I can apply again? Yikes...

It probably means they will take the best of the first 3, but I know you can take it 3 times per year. So, starting in January you can take it again 3 times. They explained that to us when I took my TEAS on campus there. I would call your rep just to be sure on it, but I remember them telling us that morning I took the TEAS. It's not the college it's like a state regulation or something now.

I was told your medical experience needs to be within the past 2 years. I was also told that if you weren't accepted into the program you'd have to redo your background and drug screen. I'm not sure if that applies to your TEAS scores also, so I would make sure so you don't miss out and not have your package ready.

thanks for all the info.

Wow, now we have to redo our drug test & background..what a waste of money! And i dont understand why they changed this teas test to 3 times only. I was informed as well that we can take it as much as we want. So basically they didnt even look at my app.

yeah that could be the case. that would suck though because they changed that rule like after the fact, so thats kinda dumb.. well now we know..we should all try for may. in the mean time, we can do our prerec at a community college to save some extra money..

hey guys,

congrats to all who made it, and sorry for those who didnt :( its a good thing the next rotation comes again pretty quick. i got a phone call from my advisor telling me i got in too and she told me i would be getting a letter in the mail and that i had to schedule an appointment with the DON. i haven't gotten that letter yet, what did it say? i finally decided to join the world of allnurses.com and im excited to meet everyone who got in as well!

Hi klong! The letter just says you ar conditionally accepted until u show proof of a health care provider cpr card, clean bill of health, clean drug test and current vaccines along with a meeting with the DON. It all needs to be done by jan 20 to keep your spot. Congrats! Can't wait to meet u in class.

SDSweetie do you have an email so we can chat about may start...

Has anyone been able to confirm how many attempts are allowed for the TEAS? I was also told I would be able to take as many times as I want to improve my score. I haven't applied yet but I wanted to apply to the May program. Tried calling my rep. So I could get the deadlines/ask about the TEAS but she has not called back!

When I took my TEAS in Oct. I was told that there is a new policy and that you can take the TEAS 3 times per year. The way I understood, it was a state thing and not a Kaplan thing.3 times is a lot though. Just study hard and you'll do fine. It's not really a difficult test.

I just posted above ^ and actually just spoke with someone from Kaplan and they have recently with in the last 2 months changed the TEAS exam rules to 3 LIFETIME tries for anyone else who was wondering, she also told me they MAY try to accomadte those students who were told otherwise and who have taken it a few times, anyway I hope this info is useful for someone else who may have had the same questions :)

Hello,

I have a tour of the Kaplan campus and such today. When I spoke with the admissions rep, he seemed rather friendly and like he really wanted me to come down and see the campus and such. But the tuition is what's really scaring me. I am young, to say the least, and becoming a nurse has been my lifelong dream. I know that I won't get in for this January rotation because of their application schedule and the like, but I need to know some things in regards to their faculty and how they treat their students. I am looking into Kaplan because of the 'no waiting list' thing, and because I want to get started on my dream as soon as I can. But I know that my family and I may not be able to afford the tuition costs. They (being my family) have suggested that I take my general education courses at the community college near my home first. Is this better? I would appreciate any information everyone has, and I will put up what I find out today at Kaplan when I get home from the tour and such. Thanks all!
