  1. What was your TEAS score for KCC?

9 members have participated

Hi All,

I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.

Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?

What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?

Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Cougar68,

I read on these boards, in a post a while back, about a user that got into the program and had a 2.5 GPA 4.0 Pre-GPA and 99 on the NLN. That looks similar to your scores! That user explained that he was taking upper level classes, which caused his GPA to drop, but still be at about 2.5. He did very well on his NLN with above 90's in each category, and aced every prerequisite to have a 4.0 Pre-GPA.

Here's a quote I found from the user

Did you read my post? I had a 2.5 cGPA. That was with over 100 attempted GPA hours accumulated. So A LOT of D's F's incompletes, academic probations, and suspensions, etc.

When I got interested in nursing I aced my pre-reqs and NLN and got accepted on my first try. I'm now one of the top students in my nursing class.

If your D's/F's are in your nursing pre-reqs that's a totally different story. But otherwise don't sweat it. Just realize you need to work your @$$ off to make up for the cGPA.

and another one

GPA 2.5 (that's not a typo)

pre-req GPA 4.0

NLN 150ish (99 percentile math & science, 95 percentile verbal IIRC)

accepted UHM & KCC for Spring 2009.

I believe KCC ended up adding the healthcare experience facet but you'll hafta ask them for details. also KCC does not look at cumulative GPA but UHM does.

I have high hopes for anyone that got a 99 on their NLN because that test was very difficult for me. I studied 2 months for it back in 2011, and after receiving my scores, I got a bit apprehensive about taking it again to gain a higher score. You, on the other hand, have a VERY competitive NLN score that doesn't need a retake. I would highly assume that you will be accepted into the program with a 99 NLN and 4.0 preGPA, which is highly competitive.

I think that October 2013 post is regarding the PCRN cutoff, not the ADN one. I'm applying to the ADN one, and that is 65% because of the pilot June 2013 study.

Rockingit,

thanks for that bit of info. Yes I think that guy and I are almost identical in our scores 2.5 CGPA, 153 on NLN, and 4.0 pre reqs and we are both taking science courses above the requirement and lots of Ds, Fs, and a couple Ws. I think that the upper level science and math more than anything else helped me personally do well on the NLN. I am still taking math now as I have to have at least calc II for bio at UHM, so I think I can score a little better on the the TEAS now, but we'll see. I sure hope we both make it in. Sounds like you have been monitoring the entry scores closely and been working toward this goal for a while. I think this is your year dude.

I really hope this is the year for both of us.

Well, I applied to KCC a couple of years ago, and was alt listed but not accepted. 2 of my co-reqs were missing back then, which I think put me on the bottom of the alt list. I also applied to UH-Manoa back in 2007 but no luck :( I've been on these boards looking at the stats of students that got into the program, and I tried to gauge the range of the stats that I would have to be in to be accepted. I found that the stats are pretty high, but there are cases where students that got low GPA and high test scores got into the program as well. I know that competition depends on the pool of applicants, and I really hope that this years applicant stats aren't too competitive. My KCC classmates know 1 dude that got a high 90 and another girl that got a 88 on the TEAS. I'm not too sure about their preGPR, but I doubt that they got less than 3.5's. That just means more competition for the both of us :/

All we have to do now is pray and wait till late October/early November.

Couger and Rockinit. Did either of you two turn your applications into UH or KCC, yet? I turned in the UH application earlier this week and will turn in the KCC application next week, then the waiting will begin. Good luck to both of you.

I submitted my KCC app a couple of weeks ago, after I finished my TEAS test. I will turn in my UH application next week. Good luck to you as well CPO1893. It would be awesome if we all get accepted for this semester.

Hi guys just finished my teas exam and got an 80% overall. Here are my stats : 80 % teas. Pre-req 3.8 cum 3.86. ( just recalculated that). I have one co-support course missing which I am taking this fall (phrm203) other than that I am all complete. I do not have any medical experience. You guys think I have a chance? I'm turning in my app to Kcc on Monday. I missed UH score for language usage by one question! Ugh! But Kcc is my first choice. But I am wondering if missing one co support course lowers my chances. Any idea?

Nice score Ellers! I think you have a great chance of getting in with those stats. I don't think missing one co-support course or not having medical experience will affect it a lot since your pre-req gpr and teas exam score are high. I've read some folks on these boards with the same stats as you and got into KCC.

Good luck with phrm 203! I withdrew from that class cause I didn't like the way it was structured. I took it at LCC instead. Lots of drugs to remember.

Rockinitfreshhawaii, I'm taking phrm203 with dr. Farmer from Maui college. I've heard great things about him. I also wanted to take it from lcc but I needed biochem and I didn't have that. Are you already a student at Kcc? Or are you transferring? Also do you know if they count chemistry as part Of your prerequisite? If so that will lower my gpa cuz I got a B in that class. Does Kcc consider just your prerequisite and co support not your cum gpa?

I'm transferring to kcc. Chemistry is part of the pre-reqs but not counted in the pre-gpa. The chem doesn't even have to be one that you took in college. It can be one from high school. kcc conisders ONLY your pre and co support gpa.

Here's an excerpt from KCC's adn application

B. Acceptance Criteria

1. All applicants who have met the minimum requirements are considered for acceptance on a best qualified basis. Applicants are ranked on a point scale based on the following criteria: a. GPR for completed pre-requisite and co-requisite support courses; b. ATI-Test of Essential Academic Skills adjusted individual total score; c. Co-requisite support courses completed by application deadline; d. Health-related work experience or training that includes direct patient care experience.

Hope that cleared things up.

Whew that's so good to know. I was worried when I saw it on the application. Thank you! Can't wait till October. I haven't even submitted yet and I'm already anxious. I read your post on here about why they dropped the score so my hopes went up a bit. But I'm still kinda scared I will not get in. :-/

Again, it all depends on the applicant pool. If majority of them have low TEAS scores then that's an advantage for us, who got a good amount above the 65% current minimum and 78% previous minimum I wonder how many folks will apply this semester. I have a feeling that a lot more students will apply because the 65% is very manageable. The program mean is 56%, but is that from the current pool (ones applying for spring 2014) or all the students took the most recent version of the TEAS so far. If it's just the current pool, then a score over 80% is very competitive (in my opinion).

For now, just keep praying and stay occupied.
