Hi All,
I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.
Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?
What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?
Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?
Any guidance is appreciated.
I didn't really ask about the point system. When I had my walk-in advising a couple of weeks back, I showed the adviser my pre-req and TEAS scores, and she said that it was competitive. I asked her about my 3.4 pre-req gpa and all she said was that at least I didn't have C's in any of the classes. She kinda hinted that my TEAS score would somewhat boost my application because she saw a good amount of students coming to her with slightly below 75% teas scores.
Oh, and something happened when I received my TEAS score. So I was wondering why my test indicated PN instead of ADN on the program type. I went to the nursing office to ask about my score and one of the advisers come out and said that it wasn't updated yet, and that it is suppose to say ADN. During the clarification she saw my 81.3% score and said that it was a score that could get me into the program. She asked me about my gpa and I told her it was only a 3.4. She said that it was alright, and to turn in my application right away. So, I went to the library and printed out my transcripts and then turned in my application. I hope she was a part of the acceptance committee!
What did the advisers say to you about the points for the categories?
They said most of the points are given towards your gpr and teas score but I wanted to know exact points and they didn't tell me just that majority of it is given to teas and gpr. Will the advisors talk to you even if its not walk in? I wanted to talk to someone before turning in my application.
It's weird you mentioned that because when I took my first teas it also said PN but then I asked the testing center and nursing dept. and they said there is only one teas exam format for both and that it does not matter. But on my second test it said ADN.
Happy to know that a lot of the scores fall below 75% I just recalculated my gpa from kcc and other campus and it came out to 3.73. I guess when I did it the last time I added anth200 and another class. Waaah!
I think you would need to make an appointment with them if you don't want to do a walk in. The last time I went, there were about 24 people on the list, but I only waited for about 20 mins until my name was called. I overheard a couple of the sessions and a lot of the students had questions about how competitive their scores were. There are about 4 advisors and they leave their doors open so it's not hard to listen in on their conversations...hehe.
Sometimes the student assistant in the front desk will call an advisor and seek advice from them. I called them twice about pre-reqs and co-reqs, and they transferred me to an advisor because they didn't know the answer to the question. Luckily, during my visit about the TEAS program type, the student assistant called an advisor who was in the back of the room looking at new applications. I think I was fortunate when the advisor got a look at my TEAS score. I really hope she remembers my name when she assembles with the committee to look at my application.
Nice gpa! You must've gotten a lot of A's to achieve that gpa. Is PHRM 203 the only co-req you have left?
I have 4 B's but only 3 on the gpa for the Pre-req and the rest are all A. Yes, phrm203 is the only co-req I need, which I start on Monday, along with other classes that's needed for when/if I transfer to UH for the bridge program. I guess I'll call tomorrow morning to set up an appt. I really just want to get the application in so the waiting game can start. Do you know around when they will be sending out letters? I hope we can all get in!
In KCC's FAQ's it says that letters come out late October. I wish I could speed up time
Yeah, the bridge program sounds awesome. I just hope that the tuition for that 1 year won't be too high, since the tuition is increasing annually. So you're not applying to UH for the Spring semester?
I just got off the phone with Michelle from kcc advising and I asked her about the points systems and she told me that they enter all the applicants info into a computer and the computer generates a list and this list will list best qualified students. She also mentioned that since UH recently started taking teas exam score that the majority of their qualified applicants will most likely take UH instead which is another reason why they had to lower scores besides the fact that a lot of the residents did not meet 78%. She also mentioned that their latest test they administered on Friday, which is the day I went ( she didn't know I took it that day) , scores weren't good and none went above 78 except for me. She did mention that I have a very good chance, especially since UH started taking teas. She also mentioned that they look at how detailed you are on your application. I think we have a good shot like almost 90% shot, by the looks of it but again like you said it depends on the pool of applicants. But so far from what you said and what she told me barely anyone has been able to make the 78% for this coming application.
Wow that's good news for us. A good amount of those applicants are non-residents as well, so that gives us an ever better chance because KCC wants residents in their program. I'm glad that we both did good on the TEAS. As of now, I only know of two people that got over 85% on the TEAS. Oh and other classmate of mine got a 76%.
Did she mention if they were gonna send letters to confirm that they received the application? I wouldn't want to think that I sent my application but not get in because they didn't receive it. I hope the admissions people don't forget my application. I should call and ask if they do send out receipt confirmation letters.
Did you turn your app in today? I bet it'll be really busy since UH-Systems is back in session.
I just called and they said that they don't send receipt confirmation letters. They only send confirmation letters if they see a discrepancy in the application, for example a missing transcript or an indicated health clearance but no certificate of completion/transcripts. The earliest they'll send out acceptance/rejection letters is in the 3rd week of October.
Yay! i turned it in today!
Health clearance? I didn't give no health clearance! I only turned in my application, transcript and ati scores. I passed by the nursing dept and had them check and I also had admission check that I had everything needed. Lol
Why they gotta make us wait till oct! That's so long! I don't like the waiting part. But I guess my three classes should keep me busy. :-)

I'm guessing if they had to lower the minimum score because residents weren't able to meet the 78% then we have a very good chance as most students will probably turn in their low scores, which raises our chances high. Do you know how much points you get for each category? I tried asking before but did not receive a straight answer.
