Just wanting to vent .....

Nursing Students General Students

So I have no one that I can vent to and I really just need to get this out so if you read this fine if not oh well haha.

So a short background this is week 35 in clinicals ... 16 in fundamentals and week 19 in med surg (we have 3 med surg rotations). One would think by now someone SHOULD know how to do the fundamentals like putting a patient on a bed pan, emptying a foley bag, putting on a brief, giving a patient a bath, transferring a patient from bed to wheelchair (for discharge), and what to do with the bed pan after the pt. uses it. Ok I only wish I was making these things up and all of this happened within two days and by the same person. I mean serisouly how are they still here and haven't failed out yet? I just don't understand and I'm tired of pulling her weight. I could understand if it was things that no one really has experience in BUT these things should not even be questioned right now.

UGH ok vent over I feel better.

That's why I love that the Hospital has sheets with elastic rims...

Yup, there's ALWAYS those student who you wonder - "Why are they passing?" or "How the heck did they get a better grade than me on the last test?!". Believe me, intelligence isn't just about tests...most of it is real world knowledge, which kinda stinks because (at least in my program) you only get a S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory).

One of the idiotic students in my class actually yanked out a patient's foley the very first week of clinicals. She also received 3 med errors in one day, always answers our instructor's questions incorrectly (at least when I'm around), and thinks the jugular vein is in the groin. Seriously. She also never puts her stethoscope in correctly so she has problems hearing. Very frustrating, especially when she brags about the 93 she got on a test, when most of the class got a 90. It's amazing.

I agree that the instructor should know, but it might look weird if you told him/her about the situation. You could come off as snarky or petty. Maybe if one of the staff nurses at your site makes a comment about this student, you could ask her to talk to your instructor? Or maybe try to have your instructor around when this student is performing skills.

May i join you all?:-)

The best part is when a "bad' student complains about the instructor. A perfectly good instruction who is too "harsh" on the student and keeps writing her/him up. Um... hello?

i suck at cna skills too :crying2:

like no matter how hard i try, i cant make the bedsheets ever look as nice as everyone else does :crying2:

maybe i should quit nursing school :crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2:

haha. when I went through a CNA program I wasn't the greatest at making beds.. I had this senile instructor that made me do it over 3 times... First of all, the sheets were the wrong size for the bed and she failed to realize it.

Sometimes I feel the same way in clinicals!! I feel like "what the heck is wrong with me? I can't even freakin' make the bed right!" The PCTs are so good at making the beds look awesome, and my corners just plain suck. Especially if I am making an occupied bed.. Hopefully we'll get better with time.
