Is it just the hospitals in my area or is everyone's hospital requiring that they wear these HIDEOUS AWFUL navy blue scrubs. I wish I could express myself through my scrubs by wear different colors and designs. Am I the only one that feels this way?

LOL. I'm a pre-nursing student so I see some students in their different scrubs in class. I'm not a fan of the multicolored tops. I like the solid colors. To each is own.

Navy blue is better than all white. :)

Our facility is going all navy on January 1st. Supposedly it's so the pts can tell the difference between their nurse and the housekeeper. I agree that it is better than all white.

I wish we had to wear navy blue - I work in LTC and they put us all in these hideous black scrubs. Not kidding...we look like a freaking grim reaper parade. It's soo incredibly depressing.....ugh.

I think the one-colored scrubs are more appropriate and I also think it helps the patients recognize who is a nurse. Before our hospital went to one color (every department has their own color now, such as RT, secretaries, PT,etc..), everyone wore the scrubs they wanted and you couldn't tell the nurses apart from the others. Most people were upset, but I think we all look more professional now. Everyone in some job or another has to wear a uniform, police, firemen, EMT-this is just something that I decided to accept and realize that there are bigger issues than the color of my uniform.

That is soooo depressing!! Imagine being a resident and having all of your caregivers wearing black! I think health care professionals should be banned from wearing black, it is too depressing.
As for my scrubs, I am boring, I usually wear solid colors with a plain white shirt underneath. I think they look more professional. The one exception would probably be peds nurses, I am sure the kids like it when their nurse is wearing a sponge bob shirt (or whatever cartoon character is in these days). If my hospital went to color coded scrubs, I would probably agree with it. Some of the outfits my coworkers wear to work are quite unprofessional. If we want to be considered professionals, we need to dress like one.

I'm a nursing student in clinical rotations, and I'm so very thankful that we get to wear the navy blue scrubs instead of the "nurse uniforms" some of the other colleges wear....ick! I hated to put away some of my "cuter" scrubs, but it could be a lot worse.....like the white scrubs...

Where I did my clinicals the scrub color indicated what your title was. One color for RN, another for LVN, something else for RT, PT, or what have you. It made it easy for people to tell what your job was in a place with a couple of thousand people.
Where I work now you can wear whatever color you like as long as they are clean, neat, and in good shape. It's a small facility so everyone knows everyone. Frankly, I don't see any difference in the professional appearance between the two places. The two dress codes work in their particular circumstances.
I agree with one sentiment expressed here - I think I'd look for another job before they crammed me into white. I'm a nurse, not a house painter.

Been there, done that. Trust me, navy blue is waaaay preferable to other choices.....such as ceil blue, which my facility just adopted.
I cried when I had to give up my navy scrubs to light blue.

Most of the hospitals in my area are going in that direction too: for RNs, it's either navy and white, or royal blue and white. Not sure what the LPNs in those places are going to have to wear.
Fortunately, where I work I can still wear any color I want

Well, I love black scrubs and one part of my scrubs...either pants or top, is almost always black. I wear the all black at least once a week. I have seriously considered buying all black stuff so I can just wear all black every day. I don't think it's depressing at all, I love black, and I think it looks professional.
