Congratulation!!!!
I just asked you a bunch of questions on your other post titled has anyone graduated from assabet program. I know i may be pretty invasive asking so many questions and i don't mean to be, Just curious at what my chances are like applying so late and all. Any information would help and congratulations once again!
Do you know how well you scored on the NET? Do they tell you?
Any information on how many students get into the program?
What is your educational background like and did you have good references?
I'd brush up on math skills. The simple, basic things about math we all tend to forget because we don't use them..fractions, etc. There is a lot of math involved with doseage calcs and if you don't have the basics under your belt you're going to have a tough time.
Like John-m said, start learning some medical terms. Helps a lot!
Me being me, and always wanting to have a head start, I went to the local book store and went down the nursing aisle. Since my college years were so long ago, I grabbed a book about A&P and took it home, and did some reading in my spare time.

Get use to the idea that you will eliminate the term SPARE TIME from your vocabulary.
I am also a person that likes to get a head start, I was able to pick up my textbooks and finish my math book before class even started. I was concerned since it was so long since I had been in school. I was supprised to find that the math was MUCH easier then I expected.

Were you speaking to me to get use to the idea that spare time should be eliminated from my vocab? If so, I graduated and got my LPN license 2 years ago:D so I have plenty of spare time. And during school I also had spare time, I am very organized and have to have all my ducks in a row. Nursing school doesn't necessairly kill your social/family life, it just gives you less time to be able to dedicate to it. Makes you prioritize whats of the most importance and you DO need "me" time even when a nursing student.
My advise would be to take a trip to Barnes and Noble and browse through the nursing section. If you think you will have trouble with math, brush up on some stuff. If you haven't already had A&P pick up a review book for that so that you can be ahead of the game. Also Fundamentals is a beast due to the different way of looking at things and learning how to think critically. I would pick up a review guide for that also.
Congratulations! I'd say start reading Medical Terminology book and A&P that's good start for now. Most Nursing schools start you off with that, then once you pass that, then you start doing Pharmacology & Calculations, Fundamentals, Maternity, Peds, Med Surg. But if you want to practice your math in Calculations then go ahead, but they don't start you off with that right away. Majority of them start you off w/Med. Terminology and A&P. I'm telling you this not to scare you or anything but it's alot of reading once you get deeper into the program. Try not to memorize it but to understand it. Good Luck!

Excited! Just got my acceptance letter to LPN school. Program does not start until August (early acceptance). Would love to 'get ahead of the game' and can't wait to start. How can I prepare myself?
