Licensing Requirements for first time Renewal??
Hello! I am a recent LPN grad and need to renew my license this year. I noticed in the Massachusetts licensing requirements there is an exception for first time renewals about not having to 'sending in CEs'. I am wondering if this means you don't need to complete CEs for the first renewal period. I tried to email the state board about this but the address they have on their website is not valid (big surprise there .... ). Thanks for any help! Cathy

Tips for working in Pedi Office, please
Hi and thanks so much for your comment PediMommy! You are right, learning the numerous immunizations and recommendations has been my biggest challenge. Also documenting them in our system, especially the injections with multiple immunizations in them has been tough too. Keeping the rooms full for the physicians can also be problematic if there are many physicals scheduled close together, as some require urines, hgb, etc..... I do love the job and although they could only give me one day a week for now I hope to pick up more days soon :)

Tips for working in Pedi Office, please
Hi All! I am a new LPN grad that has landed a job in a pedi office. I'm so excited, and could use some tips on giving pedi shots, leads, and keeping the patient flow going. Im in training for a few weeks under a very experienced RN and am working in a small office with two physicians. Thanks All! Cathy

Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program
Hi I would love to become a RN through the QCC program. You have to be an RN to working the schools or hospitals now, from what I understand. I was behind a desk too for many years as a computer programmer. Although I loved the job, my company decided to outsource it to India where they could pay someone $5/hr to basically do the same thing. I hear you with the baby boomers - that is my mindset exactly! I did research after I was laid off and nursing has a great future... I think with the recent medical legislation insurance companies will be paying nurses to do more and more of the work, instead of routine things that doctors or PAs do .... at least that is my hope! Here is my home email so we can keep in touch: [email protected]. No, I haven't heard the time or place of the orientation, although I have asked! I hope they don't already have me marked as a 'pain' over there! Maybe we can both wear pink shirts or something to identify ourselves at orientation? Or maybe a Red Sox cap or something, lol!

Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program
Hi, Yes, I am in Hudson, actually about 5 minutes away from the school! I am hoping I can go home for lunch most days :). Is Westboro in the district? Tuition wise it is a big difference! I will actually be paying for private Kindergarten for my son, because we only have 1/2 day in Hudson and I didn't want him shuttled around ... he isn't the greatest with transition and change! My mother actually went through the Assabet program many years ago and did fantasically with it - she ended up loving nursing and making good money until she retired. It is defiantley a great opportunity, especially in this economy. I was in IT for years but got laid off last year and the first thing I thought of was this program! Anyways, would love to meet up with you at the orientation as it would be great to have a 'friend' in the program - I am sure there will be lots of very young kids but glad there will be some moms out there too!

Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program
Hi there back! Good to hear from you! I have three kids, the youngest will be going into Kindergarten, so know the concerns you might have with the childcare. I am really excited to start and even called the nursing office a few times trying to get details (what books we will have, what vaccinations to get, etc) but they seem pretty tight lipped. I guess we will find out everything come June. Did you go to the open house in December? It looks pretty exciting! Cathy

Just got accepted to LPN School! What can I do to prepare?
Thanks everyone! I actually called the school to see if I could get the book list but they don't give it out until orientation in June. I am going to go to the library to see if I can get a head start on some basis before that. :)

Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program
Hi, It's only english and math. Math is mostly fractions, decimals, and algebra. English is reading comprehension, spelling and grammer. No science - there is a section but they do not have you do it. Good luck!

Good luck! I went to the open house and I think there are 5 or 6 men in the class this year. There were definatley some at the open house checking it out. It sounds like you have a great background for it!

Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program
Hi, I just got early acceptance into the program last week - am so excited! The interview is pretty low key - no hard questions... what are you doing for work now, why do you want to go through the program, how did you find out about the program, etc. I have no idea how full it is. I know that the steering committee met last week for the first time and accepted some early candidates. I am a female, early 40s, and have no healthcare experience. Was laid off last year from the IT field. The test was not hard, imo. I got a 100% on the math and something a bit lower on the verbal. It reminded me of the SATs. I am a college grad but haven't been to school in years. I did not buy the book. The test is a large part of how you get into the program. You need to score well. Then there is an essay, the interview, and I think if you live in the district that helps too. Did you go to the open house in December? That was very enlightening. Well, good luck and let me know if you get in - would love to make a connection before school starts. Cathy

Hi there, I am considering applying to the LPN program offered at Assabet Valley Voc in Marlboro. I would be interested in any grads or current students opinions of the program. I have taken the NET and am awaiting my interview.... Thanks!

What is ecomony doing to first year LPN grads?
That doesn't sound too bad ... they generally take new LPN grads? Can I ask what the hours and pay are like? I would love a flexible schedule too. How long does it take to get your RN after you are an LPN? I have seen as low as 18 months but don't know if that is realistic...
