they are reviewing my trancripts. My background is an LPN. I also have a BS education. I finished all classes in nursing school but the last course. My question is do you think I will have to start over in Excelsior? Also, those who have completed 50% of your course work and applied to Excelsior was your nursing courses transferable? I did speak with a representative of the school. She only said just apply and we will look at your transcripts.

oh my i just don't know..good question. i think the people with the 50% of nursing school have to take the whole course. i have no idea about people who exceed the 50%...hummmm it will take about 2 weeks for them to evaluate your transcripts. please re-post and let us know what they say. in the mean time i hope someone else can give you some better answers than me. good luck

Student who complete 50% of an RN program, have to take all of the nursing exams just like everyone else (having more than 50% completed won't make a difference). Excelsior (like most other Nursing schools), usually won't waive ANY of their core nursing requirements, or let a course from another school fill it. That's just because nursing courses are not cookie cutters like most other courses can be. They are basically formed from the ground up, for that particular, program and state.
I will say however, since you have completed so many courses, that you may just be able to complete the exams, faster than the average student.

No, I have a friend in your shoes, she's taking all the exams. Who knows they did say they'd review your transcripts keep your fingers crossed you could get lucky.
i received my unofficial evaluation and it looks like this:
listed below are the requirements you still need to complete:
general education degree component
social sciences/history distribution
2.00 semester hours in life span developmental psychology
2.00 semester hours in sociology
information literacy requirement
there are several ways to satisfy the information literacy requirement. as the universe of information grows and technology continues to transform learning, information literacy (accessing academic information electronically, selecting credible resources, etc.) becomes increasingly important. you may demonstrate competency in this area by successfully completing the excelsior college course "information literacy" (inl 102) or an approved course from the regionally accredited college of your choice. you must earn a minimum of one semester hour in information literacy with a grade of c or higher in order to complete the requirement. please visit http://www.excelsior.edu and click on the excelsior college courses link for information pertaining to inl 102.
nursing component
to satisfy the nursing component, you must complete the following examinations:
essentials of nursing care: health safety
essentials of nursing care: chronicity
essentials of nursing care: reproductive health
health differences across the life span 1
health differences across the life span 2
health differences across the life span 3
transition to the registered professional nurse role
nurx*274: focused clinical competencies assessment (fcca)
clinical performance in nursing (cpne)
i feel encouraged by all the individuals on this board enrolled within the program and are successful. i have decided to enroll.

I am under the impression you will not have to, that most of your credits will be transferred.
As far as the wait time. I did mine of Christmas day so I mailed it in and was accepted within a week.
Best of luck to you!!

Good luck!
A word of advice. Take the soc and dev psych AFTER you finish the nursing tests. You'll have a two month wait just to get the CPNE date and then a few months after that.
Thanks for the advice

Also, to add to what Sue suggested ... you can take CLEP tests for those credits instead of the Excelsior exams -- it'll save you money! The CLEP tests (Human Growth and Development will satisfy Life Span and Introductory Sociology will take care of the Soc credits) are $65 each, plus a registration fee at whichever school you test -- Shenendoah University near my home charges $15. Sure beats the $200-whatever EC charges! These CLEPs are pass/fail and won't influence your GPA, which is either a good or bad thing ... but this way I'll save money, and I can skip the 150-mile-roundtrip drive to my closest Pearson testing center.
More info on CLEP tests in case you need it: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html
Congrats on your decision to become ONE OF US!! LOL
Thank you so much Lunah. I appreciate the any and all advice each of you have shared. This board is very helpful to anyone wanting to attempt online nursing.
