What are other people feeling about the exam today? I don't have a great feeling at all!

Did anyone get their results in north Toronto today? Markham/Thornhill?

Any word of any unsuccessfuls yet?

Not a single fail in the facebook group...

good afternoon all, first time here...just trying to help out a friend to figure out a math behind the score she received today. The numbers don't make sense to me on her document...even the sample that I goodled shows a score of 542 while it should be 546 even 547 (or i think this what it should be in that sample). Here is how i came to this conclussion: (618+459+573+520+573+643+438)/7=546.92...am i missing something?...does anyone know what formula is used to calculate the final scaled score... by the way, when i used the above calculation with her real numbers, the result was considerably higher than the one noted as a final scaled score. BTW, here is a link to the sample candidate profile page i am referring to http://cna-aiic.ca/~/media/cna/page-content/pdf-en/crne_candidate_performance_profile_e.pdf

Thanks for any help in advance

Hi Ontariolurker, I cannot provide the answer you're looking for but I did plug in the numbers from the sample you showed, and I also got the same result as you, it was not 542 but 546...decimals..

But when I used the examples and only added up the first four numbers in the sample (618+459+573+520=542.5) but I cannot tell if that is the numbers they used to get 542 shown.

Did a raw score (the number of questions needed to pass) show on your friend's result?

The only numbers that are used for the calculation of the scaled score are the first four. Those are the domains of nursing practice that are tested. The three other numbers are a breakdown of the type of information processing the various questions are based upon. If you do the math with the first four numbers you will get 542.

First of all, THANK YOU CaffeinePOstat and janfrn for the very quick response to my question.

As you can see, in my original post, I haven't used the actual numbers that my friend has received - i was looking for the formula used as well as to verify whether my thinking was correct.

CaffeinePOstat - I cannot find anywhere in the letter a wording "raw score". The only understanding i have is that a passing score is 550. Is this the number you have asked for?

Janfrn - it looks like you have a solid understanding of the score calculation. If I use the first four numbers on her score sheet, sum them up and devide by four, i still get the higher number than the final scaled score. I even tried adding the buttom three numbers and deviding the sum by three - the result was again significantly higher than the final scaled score. What are your thoughts?

Thank you again!

There was one girl on there that said she failed by only 2%

Yes this is true....the calculations are only based on 1) professional practice 2) nurse-client partnership 3) Health and Wellness and 4) Changes in health. Those are the competency categories that the entire pool of CRNE questions come from. The other 3 areas shows how well you did on 1) knowledge 2) application and 3) critical thinking, thst are scaled scores from the 4 main competencies.

Hey, just wondering if anyone in Alberta has heard? Pass or Fail? Don't know why are province seems to be last this time.

One question. Is the result you get from adding up your friend's four competency scores then dividing by four greater than or less than 550? If the result is less than 550 this whole discussion is pretty much moot. CNA automatically rescores those exams that are close to the pass mark, first by rescanning the answer sheet then by hand-marking it before confirming the results are accurate. The scaled score also does not include any rounding up, so if there are decimals they're ignored. Realize that the numbers used in the example are just made-up numbers and the only equation that counts is the one using the first four numbers.

The reason why the Performance Profile includes the scaled score for both the actual competencies that are examined and the taxonomy levels both for the candidate and the aggregate is to help the unsuccessful candidate understand where they should focus their efforts in studying for the next go-round. The example shows an obvious problem with Nurse-Client Partnership and Critical Thinking, with a less-significant problem with Changes in Health.

There have been some results reported from Alberta, Crnerollercoaster. Not many, but they're there. Alberta, Ontario and BC are the provinces with the largest average number of candidates for each session so they tend to get their results nearer the end.

Yes, the result i get is more than 20 points over 550 score (without rounding up). Hence, i cannot understand how the final scale score noted on the document she received was calculated.
