Hi all, I just had a question. Can anyone tell me what I must do as a surgical assistant to jump tp becoming an LVN. I have heard that as a Surg Assistant I would alny have to take a fewe more classes and then take the LVN test. Is this true? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome. I can't answer your question, maybe you can post in the LPN forum or the forum that corresponds to your state.
The best place however, would be the local LPN school. Good luck!
ok thanks, I will do that.

Call the counselors at all of the LVN schools in your area and they will most likely be the best people to inform you on what classes you'll need to attend.

i was just wondering, how much did you make as a surg tech and are there plenty of jobs out there for that career?

The school you're planning to attend would be better to answer the questions, because we don't know the classes they require. Plus we don't know what classes you had in ST school. A school counselor should be able to help you with that.

I can only speak for around here but I don't think there is too much of an overlap between the two programs despite them being similar positions in the "pecking order". I have a friend who did the surg tech program and I think only the gen ed classes like Micro and A&P would transfer.
For the person who asked about surg techs in this area their salaries are similar to LPNs and the jobs are plentiful, plus they have the best job next to first assists in the OR imo. :)

Luckily, the OR I work in, First assists and SurgTechs are one in the same.. I love it...:)
Very cool, I'm totally jealous because I'm a surg-tech at heart. Sadly I just can't afford to live on their salary so I'm getting my RN.

Hi there, where I work at the starting pay for surg tech and LVN is about a dollar difference starting out.
I was, still am a Surgical Technologist, but I went back to school to become a nurse. I am an LPN and work in the OR. I am still used like a tech, but will be able to utilize some of my skills as a nurse.
I was fortunate, the hospital I work at took into consideration the years of service and I was able to get a nice pay increase for becoming an LPN. I thank my PCM and my ortho coordinator for going to bat for me on this increase.
