Looking for an adrenaline charged environment? Looking to constantly be challenged? Looking for continuous learning and growth? Looking to really make a difference? Then the Washington Hospital Center is the place for you!
Washington Hospital Center, located in a bustling and diverse inner-city environment, is the largest hospital in DC with 936-beds, a Level I trauma center, the region's only Burn Center, a nationally recognized cardiovascular program, and more. We offer one of the best RN Residency Programs in the area for new graduate RNs and RNs looking to transition into a new specialty area. You will hit the ground running and be immersed in an extensive 8-14 week program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused case study approach to learning, clinical preceptorship, and new hire support/mentorship. All programs are run by experience clinical nurse educators who oversee both classroom and clinical orientation components. Since 1987, our RN Residency Programs have been the foundation for new graduate and RN training.
The RN Residency Program offers opportunities to work in one of the following units: Cardiac Thoracic, Cardiac Surgery Stepdown, Medical Cardiology, Burn/Trauma Stepdown, Pulmonary, General Medical, Medical/Behavioral Health, Endocrine, Surgery/Transplant, Geriatrics, Oncology. (Availability is contingent upon open positions)
The July 2010 RN Residency Program begins July 19, 2010.
Requirements: Current CPR certification. New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program on July 19, 2010. It is recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.
If selected for an interview new grads must bring a current CPR card, two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors on official letterhead and official transcripts
I understand that the Hospital Center is gearing for a pending "Nursing Strike" to start on or about June 17. That could be why the interviews were cancelled. I was called today about working there during the strike if it happens. They probably got a list of all DC licensed RNs and are calling them. I will NOT be a strike buster. Told the agency, "I do not do strikes". It is tough for experienced as well as new grad nurses. Hang in there and keep trying, something will come along. Good Luck.

That would explain things a bit in regards to the number of canceled invitations to interview. That is something I would never do either, being a scab worker.
I had an interview on Wednesday. It seemed to go well. We'll see what happens. No one else in the area seems to be hiring, its frustrating, all I've been getting are thanks but no thanks emails from all hospitals in the DC area (including Baltimore and Richmond)....
Ya! you are right no one is hiring... it is so sad. I feel like I am losing my skills. Did they hire anybody on the spot? which dept you interviewed for? I am also interested in WHC but no replies yet!!
I also interviewed Wednesday...
did ANYONE hear back yet?
my friend interviewed on wednesday as well but she did not hear from them yet! when they suppose to contact coz program is starting soon? Finally they send me the confirmation for june 25 interview:yeah:. I will let you guys know if I hear anything!!! Good luck!!
Congrats! I have my interview tomorrow. Excited but nervous, because I don't know what to expect. They did ask me to list my preferences regarding area. I did provide those, but I'm honestly interested in whatever. Did they consider you for all the internship positions? Or did they only consider you for the areas you provided? Thanks for any guidance. Hopefully, I will be joining you in July.
Hi guys,
I had an interview last week. During the interview, I met the unit manager and she was AWESOME! I got a call this am and was offered the job. I am super excited to have a job and saying prayers for all other new grads to be so lucky. The only negative is the very long commute. Guess I'll have to get some books on CD. Anyone else starting in July, please email me!
