Looking for an adrenaline charged environment? Looking to constantly be challenged? Looking for continuous learning and growth? Looking to really make a difference? Then the Washington Hospital Center is the place for you!

Washington Hospital Center, located in a bustling and diverse inner-city environment, is the largest hospital in DC with 936-beds, a Level I trauma center, the region's only Burn Center, a nationally recognized cardiovascular program, and more. We offer one of the best RN Residency Programs in the area for new graduate RNs and RNs looking to transition into a new specialty area. You will hit the ground running and be immersed in an extensive 8-14 week program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused case study approach to learning, clinical preceptorship, and new hire support/mentorship. All programs are run by experience clinical nurse educators who oversee both classroom and clinical orientation components. Since 1987, our RN Residency Programs have been the foundation for new graduate and RN training.

The RN Residency Program offers opportunities to work in one of the following units: Cardiac Thoracic, Cardiac Surgery Stepdown, Medical Cardiology, Burn/Trauma Stepdown, Pulmonary, General Medical, Medical/Behavioral Health, Endocrine, Surgery/Transplant, Geriatrics, Oncology. (Availability is contingent upon open positions)

The July 2010 RN Residency Program begins July 19, 2010.

Requirements: Current CPR certification. New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program on July 19, 2010. It is recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.

If selected for an interview new grads must bring a current CPR card, two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors on official letterhead and official transcripts

That's a horrible thing to do, invite someone to an interview and then cancel it. Very, very unprofessional, especially considering what plans those of us have put aside in order to make time for the interview itself.

Can either of you post what the e-mail said?

that is very unprofessional, and to think, during an interview, they would be judging us based on our professionalism.

This is what my email said:

Thank you for your request for an interview. We have received an overwhelming number of responses and due to the limited number of vacant positions we are unable to schedule you for an interview at this time. We have received your application and it will remain on file for approximately one year. In the future, if a position becomes available we will contact you for possible interview opportunities.

Thank you for your interest in Washington Hospital Center. We wish you much success in your career endeavors.

Due to the overwhelming number of applications and e-mail responses we receive, we are unable to provide application status checks.

Sincerely,

Nurse Recruitment Team

....I'm starting to wonder if the date I chose had anything to do with the interview being cancelled. I would have chosen any date!

I doubt it, being that I was told well over 300 applicants were under consideration. I'm starting to think they invited everyone to an interview by mistake and are trying to cover themselves. If they didn't have the faculty to conduct that many interviews, why invite that many in the first place?

I actually gave up a part time job (non-nursing) in order to go this interview as I had to say I would be gone next week and once they knew I had the interview they decided against hiring me. These hospitals don't really care what effect they have the community or individual.

I received the exact same letter(generic). I even emailed them back and asked if they had an LPN position that I could start in. They don't hire LPN's there:( I am speculating that they may have chose BSN before associates and locality. I live 18 miles outside of DC and I am having trouble getting anything RN or LPN in this area(30 miles radius). They advertise lots of jobs here, but I run in to many nurses, even experience ones having trouble getting jobs! I was told by a nurse I met from DC that they are advertising ,but not hiring that much.

It sucks for me because I had a job in State College,PA where I could have transitioned from LPN to RN. If any of you want to move to State College PA(PENN STATE) They were always hiring new nurses(Big influx) I think there RN's start out at 24/hr plus diff's, and it was the easiest job I ever had (patient ratio4-6 days an 5-7 nights)It is a college town so if you like that it would be perfect!

I hope someone on this forum gets into the internship. But if you don't think of it like this. It is extremly expensive around here and the traffic is horrible. So horrble that if I did get I would have been taking the metro commute 1hr 15 min for 23 miles away!

Just got my rejection letter for an interview...

Hi Guys!! I am new to allnurses.com. I also received interview call from WHC but still awaiting for confirmation email. I really want to get this job. I wonder what would they ask in the interview? Does anybody have the idea?:)

If you haven't received the confirmation e-mail yet, it's not likely you will. They have completed their confirmation e-mails and all spots for interviews are full. (or so they told me, reason why you see those of us who were invited, got rejection confirmation e-mails)

Are you serious??? ...well like everyone else said, a lot of us have had to set aside dates just to fly in for this interview...and its very unprofessional not to be notified of any acceptance or rejections Oh wells!!! I cant believe I have been waiting for this job since March....I guess i'll continue with my job search in Texas they are definately hiring :)

I have also applied to Texas( Dallas, San Antanio area, houston ) for couple RN residency programs but I did not get single call from them as well. I am from northern virginia but still I applied to texas if by chance I get job. Job market is horrible for new gradautes. I am dec 09 graduate and passed my boards in march but still lookin for job! it is so frustating. I think it is wrong that Nurses are ALWAYS IN DEMAND.

I got a confirmation email within a few hours. However, I canceled the interview this morning since I had gotten another offer. So hopefully they will extend the slot to one of you.

I never got a rejection email or a confirmation email, so I called HR yesterday. They said if you havent gotten a confirmation email, then you were not selected. They didnt even have the decency to email people and tell them they were rejected. Shows how much they care about their employees...
