Looking for an adrenaline charged environment? Looking to constantly be challenged? Looking for continuous learning and growth? Looking to really make a difference? Then the Washington Hospital Center is the place for you!

Washington Hospital Center, located in a bustling and diverse inner-city environment, is the largest hospital in DC with 936-beds, a Level I trauma center, the region's only Burn Center, a nationally recognized cardiovascular program, and more. We offer one of the best RN Residency Programs in the area for new graduate RNs and RNs looking to transition into a new specialty area. You will hit the ground running and be immersed in an extensive 8-14 week program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused case study approach to learning, clinical preceptorship, and new hire support/mentorship. All programs are run by experience clinical nurse educators who oversee both classroom and clinical orientation components. Since 1987, our RN Residency Programs have been the foundation for new graduate and RN training.

The RN Residency Program offers opportunities to work in one of the following units: Cardiac Thoracic, Cardiac Surgery Stepdown, Medical Cardiology, Burn/Trauma Stepdown, Pulmonary, General Medical, Medical/Behavioral Health, Endocrine, Surgery/Transplant, Geriatrics, Oncology. (Availability is contingent upon open positions)

The July 2010 RN Residency Program begins July 19, 2010.

Requirements: Current CPR certification. New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program on July 19, 2010. It is recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.

If selected for an interview new grads must bring a current CPR card, two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors on official letterhead and official transcripts

anyone hear back about their interview day/time?

I haven't heard anything yet. I really hope that I hear something tomorrow, as I want to schedule my flight using miles.

No reply yet! But I have learned in this area, nothing moves to fast. Will post if i hear anything. I picked the June 9th date. I plan on taking the metro from where i live to see how the commute is.

I called them today and they said they are currently working through the massive backlog of 300 plus candidates. :crying2:

I figured as much. The good thing is that it is a huge hospital and they only have 2 residency programs a year so at least you have a 50/50 shot. I am looking at it like, if it happens it happens! I am considering taking a Government job as an LPN and finishing my BSN if this fall through. I can't move because my husbands job is here, so i will take what I can get. GOOD LUCK!

over 300! yikes. i wonder how many job offers they will make after the interviews.

5... :uhoh3:

Actually I have no idea, but I highly doubt that it goes past 80 and if I had to guess I'd venture to say it's below 50. Especially if they have these orientations twice a year and the fact that the amount of nurses retiring is extremely low.

For those who are coming out of state...do you have a DC license already or is it currently processing? I already have two state licenses and I'm considering if I should just apply for the DC one if I'm accepted into the program. $230 seems like a lot compared to other states and I don't want to risk spending that much if I'm turned down.

I don't have a DC license, but I have applied for a MD license which is part of the compact state license. I would hope that WHC will help those of us who are out of state in obtaining a DC license, as like you, I'm not going to apply for one if I don't have the job.

i would definitely hold off getting the dc license until after you are offered the job, no sense in wasting $230. i'm from out-of-state, and its kind of crazy that the last interview date is the end of June and the program starts July 19th - that's not a long time to get everything in order regarding the dc license, not to mention moving, etc. it seems unreasonable for them to expect out-of-state people to apply for a dc license before we are certain about the job.

Starting to think they won't be contacting me about this job, which I think is really unprofessional of this hospital. It's already pretty unprofessional expecting those of us from out of state keeping our schedules opened up in order to make the potential trip to DC. It's Friday and my interview date is supposed to be next Wednesday.

I take it none of you have heard anything either?

I got a reply back from them through email this morning. They cancelled the interview. I was really excited too.....
