Hello!
I haven't seen any threads yet about the Johns Hopkins accelerated MSN program for Spring of 2018 so I thought I would start one to chat with other hopefuls like myself!
Also, if anyone who has previously been accepted into the program, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! For now, I have a few questions:
-Does anyone know if all parts of the application are weighed equally or which ones they place the most emphasis on?
- I took the GRE once and I scored in the 82nd percentile for verbal reasoning (score: 159), 93rd percentile for analytical writing (score: 5), and the 55th percentile in quantitative reasoning (score: 154 ) Should I retake it to improve my math score? My fear is that I'll take it again and do worse!
- What is their acceptance rate?
- Any good tips for the personal statements? I'm finding that it's very difficult to articulate why I want to be a nurse without sounding cheesy.
- Where else are y'all applying?
I think that's all for now! I look forward to chatting with everyone and wish you all the best of luck!
Hello. Any late acceptances take place recently? I applied right at the Oct. 1st deadline.
I applied late as well. I asked if I would hear a decision by the November 1st deadline should I decide to reapply for fall. This is what I was told:
"I cannot guarantee that you will have a decision by November 1st. The good news is that we will continue to accept Fall 2018 applications through at least January 1st.
Thanks, Sharon
Sharon Warner | Associate Director of Admissions"
Their deadlines on the website don't match the deadlines listed on NursingCAS, so I'm really not sure. It appears to me that they just admit on a rolling basis, or make really really last minute decisions.
Do you think it'll hurt my chances to get accepted if I apply to the second priority date in January instead of Nov 1st. I need time to work on my professional reference.. I have 3 academic ones that I could ask right now! would that even be acceptable? Two of them are nurses themselves but I know them as instructors and not on a professional level (co-worker/supervisor..etc). Any advice?
I wonder if they keep spots open for the second deadline because I got the impression that they look at applications on a rollin basis like a first-come first serve? I don't know...

According to the online Q&A session that I attended on September 7, 2017, the cohort in the fall is much bigger with about 140 students. In the spring, the cohort is about 100 students due to the non-traditional academic start time. However, overall the acceptance rate is about 45% for both semesters. Hope this helps!
Oh no, that's unfortunate. I hope you're able to get it all sorted out without too much trouble!I also applied to Duke and in May and they had the same prompts as JH, so I've been working on refining my responses for a while. Duke didn't have the 300 word limit, so I had to basically chop my responses in half! It was really difficult for me to choose between prompt #2 and #3 for my secondary essay because I feel like they both have their own strengths and offer different views of me as a candidate. You can do it! Something that has helped me a TON is getting friends and professors I trust to read my responses and offer their comments. It's so hard to tell if what you have written is any good when you've read it 500 times, so having a fresh pair of eyes is incredibly valuable.
Good luck on finishing your application! I'm hoping to submit mine within the next week or two and I'm equal parts terrified and excited! I've been crushing hard oh Johns Hopkins' program for over a year now, so it's crazy to think that I'll know whether or not they want to take a chance on me in only a few short months! Best of luck to you! I hope this response helped!
The current JHU application in NursingCAS states that the essay responses should be approximately 300 words. How much do you think is acceptable to go over the limit in this case? The text box in the application allows much more space than 300 words. Would 400 words be too much? Just seeking some feedback. Thank you!

My responses were right at the 300 word mark on the dot. I did respond to all three prompts as well. I applied late and I am currently wait listed so hopefully that helps. I also did submit a Statement of Purpose I had written for another application, just for some added clarification. It was not necessary and for all I know it might not have been read but I submitted it anyway. But to answer your question, I don't think it would be too much of an issue. Email them and ask! They respond very quickly and have been so helpful to me.
