Johns Hopkins/JHU Early Decision?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all! I've been posting over in the graduate student forum, but since I only applied to the ABSN program, I thought I'd post over here to see if anyone else had heard yet!

I got my call today (I'm in! Yay!:yeah:), but I can tell from past threads that they make notification calls all week. So? What's the word? Who else has heard?

OoOo, new thread.

Hi all.

Just sent over my grades altho, theyre not really posted yet. :saint:

It just sounds to me like JHU is so very accommodating. Sarah, do u live near Baltimore? Arent the crime rates super high? Ppl keep telling me that.

Hopefully I'll have good news soon.

They are very accommodating at least with my experience. I do not live near Baltimore...not even close. I live in San Diego, California.

I also heard about the crime rate and my roommates are teasing me about it, because they love the show the Wire on HBO and it's set in Baltimore. They even mentioned Hopkins in one episode. The whole series is about corruption in local government, police, and drugs on the street (lesson 1: do no sell crack on other people's turf). They are a little biased, but it's true that Baltimore is not the safest place. But the campus is nice and the area around it has better according to a friend that used to live there. Don't let that get in the way of applying. You'll be fine!

Hm, Ive never seen that show. I'm in the Bay Area. I was just entertaining myself with the possibility of getting into JHU and then having to drive/fly/move there. And what stuff I should leave behind. Shrug.

Actually I see the crime rate as a morbid plus, haha. More patients, and cheaper rent!

Ha ha...I never thought of it like that. I was actually just talking with my parents about how unsafe baltimore is. I don't think they would appreciate that rationalization though. Works for me.

I am also trying to figure out what to bring, what to leave, and how I am going to get there. It seems hard to know what to bring until you know where you will be living. I am hoping to go to accepted students day and check out the area. I also have a friend who lives in Baltimore who I will be seeing on Tuesday. I am going to pick her brain about what she thinks. Her boyfriend is in a PhD program at Hopkins, so hopefully she has some good insight. I will post anything that may be useful to everyone.

Sara

My plan is to just bring my clothes. I almost feel like it'll be more expensive to move everything than just to purchase everything again. I'm definitely not going to bring my car, but I can always bring it later if needed.

Please provide some insight! I need all the help I can get. I'm pretty clueless right now. I hope it'll just work out in the end haha.

Sarah

Hm. From experience, I know I have 4 car loads of clothes (so I stopped buying clothes a while ago). But I shouldnt plan too much yet, in case the news I get is that I dont get in.

I guess it all depends on where and who youre going to be living with. I was thinking of bringing my text books though. Should use em, since I bought em.

I want to figure out if moving all my stuff is more pricey or just buying new stuff. I have too much stuff, but I'm tired of living like a college student too (crates and boxes as furniture).

I think theres an accepted students forum on JHUSON's website on all this stuff though...

Congrats to all. Question though - I was considering applying to JHU for the ABSN program but then after I looked at the price (over $80k for the whole cost of attendance) I knew that I just wouldnt be able to afford it - especially with the debt I have from my previous education.

So i guess im just curious as to how so many people are able to afford this program. Are you all just independently wealthy (not that theres anything wrong with that)? Are you planning on just taking out loans?

Federal Direct Loans, Private Loans, JHU Scholarships/Grants, Tuition Reimbursement @ JHH (and salary from working part-time as a tech). That sums it up, its definitely doable. Although I'm not sure how much free aid incoming students will be receiving as JHU's endowment has not been immune to the economic difficulties that other private schools of their caliber are experiencing.

i know this post is more than a year old. Did you figure out how to pay for the Accelerated program??

Yea...go to UMB.
