Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN Fall 2010 Anyone?

Published

Hi all - maybe I am jumping the gun, but has anyone else begun working on their applications for Summer/Fall 2010 admission?

I plan on applying for direct entry to JHU, UCSF, Yale, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. With the exception of UCSF's 9/1 deadline, the rest seem to be due between 11/1 and 12/1. Although UCSF has the closest deadline, I am stressing the most about the essays for JHU. Anyone started them yet?

Also, does anyone plan on attending the open house that JHU is having in September? I would love to go, but I am in California, so I have to decide if it is worth the $$$. I am thinking I might be better off saving the money to fly out for the interview (positive thinking here).

Anyway, I would love to compare notes with anyone applying, or anyone who applied last year.

Thanks and good luck! :D

it's all out of my hands now. had my interview yesterday. it was fine, but i did feel like a babbling idiot at times. i can get so passionate about healthcare and social justice, so i hope i didn't sound like an angry black male.

Hey everyone, I applied RD for the ABSN->MSN track and had my interview last week with the same person as amojo99 (not supposed to mention names). I felt like a babbler too, but I hope she gave me a good report.... I heard that we will hear of acceptance "sometime in February".... she specifically said it like that, as if it could be February 1.... or 28th... I applied a lot of places, but of all of them, I was expecting to hear back from JHU first. So, we'll see! Congrats to all of you who got in early! Good luck to everybody who's still waiting :)

The more discouraging news is that they told me they filled nearly half the class with early decision folks. :(

Oh, that is discouraging. But, aren't there like 150 spots? Also discouraging to read that applications increased 47% this year. But we still have a chance..... I think you and me applied to a lot of the same schools Abbie Grace. Do you know which is your first choice?

47%?? Yikes. I missed that. Where did you hear that? Did someone post that on this thread?

All along, I've felt like Duke is my top choice but, I'd be happy to go to Hopkins or Seattle U, too. What about you?

I saw it on their facebook page. But here is the article:

I don't have a first choice right now because I just want to get accepted to at least one school. I applied to OHSU, JHU, Case, Duke, UM, UNC, and Georgetown. So, I would go to any one of those. If, somehow I get accepted more than one place, then I will pick based on price and location. But, it seems like acceptance decisions will be very scattered and take longer than I thought...

I am applying to JHU's peace corps fellows scholarship, which is a lot of essays. I wish I knew if they were considering me before I spend a bunch of time on essays... Oh well. I'm excited to hear how you and I do...! Maybe we will end up at the same school :)

the woman with whom i interviewed told me that they look at the overall quality of the applicants decides how large the class will be, so that could mean 130 students or 170 students. i'd imagine more applicants would mean a larger class. and who knows what their formula for is for the accepting:attending. if 75-85 students will be guaranteed attending, that leaves an almost equal number of spots. so maybe 100 or so of us will hear good news?

I applied RD ABSN only. So that must mean we get the leftover spots. Still keeping hope alive.

Hi Everyone!

Just wondering if anyone is working on the Merit Scholarship Essay due February 1st. After writing ALL those essays in the fall, I just can't bring myself to write one last essay! And I'm having a really hard time finding things to say that I did not already say in my application essay. Are you guys/gals reusing any material from the application essay or starting from scratch?

Thanks for the advice!

There is no starting from scratch possible. I've given up my root already, my reason for choosing nursing, and though I won't be plagiarizing myself, all of my essays have a lot of the same ideas.

so yes. i've talked about some of the same things, just gone into different aspects or gone deeper into some things that i didn't get into in the limited space beforehand.

Hi! I too am waiting to hear from Hopkins. I interviewed on 12/22 for the BSN-MSN (FNP) and the guy I interviewed with told me I should hear by mid-late January. I hope I don't have to wait too much longer!

Has anyone heard anything yet? I'm getting nervous!
