RN-MSN Leadership at WGU
there is a pdf file available on the website for the msn program from wgu in education that details the course outline with course summaries and exactly how they are assessed. i would assume there is a similar pdf for the msn leadership program.

UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?
I interviewed last year and it was really informal. I agree with whomever said to have questions ready--I wish I had had more. That being said, good luck to you all. I don't think the interviews can really break you, but I do think it's a great opportunity to see the school and show yourself off. I'll be around for the lunches with current students for Friday and Monday's interviews.

UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?
I'll be there at the open house. If I'm not mistaken, i think most everyone gets an interview. Its a good time to get your questions answered and show yourself off.

UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?
Between the interviews and the admissions decision at the end of January, not much happens. I think I had to turn in a midterm grade report for the classes that were in progress. I submitted my financial aid information after the interview. It was mostly waiting. As for the interview, it wasn't bad at all. And it doesn't matter if you do your interviews on the phone or in person.

UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?
I actually just started a research job with one of my summer professors. Not hard at all, and a lot of interesting work happening. I think Penn is #1 in NIH funding.

UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?
I think that Penn really wants us all to succeed in the program, and I feel like there is plenty of support available for those that need it. So far my experience has been positive. Aside from me questioning my decision and my abilities every so often, I've enjoyed school. I had this fear that the summer start would be an intense 7 weeks, and it was, but the fall is a whole different beast. Not to say that things are too intense--at 18 months, this is one of the longer accelerated programs in the country. My classmates are very supportive, not cutthroat in the least, and we have access to the resources of this great university. Another plus--Penn was one of the first schools to notify me of their decision, and within a week had sent me a financial aid package. Their financial aid package was incredible, especially as an independent student, compared to schools like JHU or Columbia, Penn offers a lot of grant money to 2nd degree students, and I didn't have to even think about private loans. Any more specific questions?

Starting Salaries for New Nurses in Philly
Chloecatrn I get what you're trying to say. I also think that nurses would be more empowered to accept and fight for better wages if they knew what the market was. Hospitals have long had the upper hand in regards to nurses' wages. If people were better able to see what other hospitals are paying, maybe we can push nurses wages up. By knowing what a hospitals starting salary may be, we can better choose between working in our communities or commuting. We can do a better cost/benefit analysis regarding where we work.

Are my GRE scores sufficient for an Entry-level MSN program?
those gre scores are upper-echelon great. i hope you didn't need me to tell you that.

GRE Vocab
for me reading was key. the ny times, ap english style books, and studying vocabulary over time; don't procrastinate. i got a 650 verbal--i didn't think it was a great score until i saw that it was in the 93rd percentile or something. but when the words and analogies came up it was still very confusing. the strategies offered by the books i bought helped at times. the most frustrating part was remembering having had studied the particular word on the screen but not being quite sure of the definition.

Univ of Penn Accelerated program and Master's, family/program info
i applied to the program. the start dates for the program depend on how many prereqs you have completed before you enroll. those that start in the summer have taken more prereqs, and complete their BSN in 18 months. the fall start is more like a regular 2 year program in a sense, and is not accelerated. with the program, you can apply to just do the BSN, or apply to the BSN/MSN. so in those threads where people were declaring their specialty, they have applied to the BSN/MSN programs, where after you complete the BSN, you continue on to a master's program. the benefit is that here you apply and are accepted with one application, and can continue straight through your BSN with an MSN (actually, penn gives you five years to finish the MSN). these programs can take i think anywhere from 16 mos to 2 year to complete, depending on your specialty. additionally, some specialties require work experience between the BSN and MSN so that extends the time before you become an advanced practice nurse. penn does have a no loan policy for the undergrad portion, and the financial aid package has been very generous. i don't have kids, but i have been making under $20K since i went back to school. my package didnt consist of no loans exactly, but all but my efc was basically a grant. the room and board situations was loans though, but i'm not complaining. PM me for more info.

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN Fall 2010 Anyone?
marinara, from reading threads in previous years, depositing at two schools is not uncommon, especially due to FA issues. you'll just lose out on the money is all. no school can make you go if you choose to rescind your intent of enrollment. i'd rather see you at penn though, with me.
