Im moving to Souther Ca soon wondered if anyone working in UCLA, HOAG, or other hospitals down there. Im looking for labor & delivery in a nice area with lots of things to do. What cities should I stay away from, such as gang land???

I just did my L&D clinical at Harbor UCLA in Torrance and had a good experience. The hospital isn't in the best area, but the staff on the unit were very nice. We do clinicals on weekends and things were pretty slow there, but I hear it picks up during the week. The commute from the Hollywood area isn't too bad, so you don't have to live there.
We encountered a lot of patients lacking PNC and those under watch of social services...just the population I guess. A new grad in the NICU said she absolutely loves it there.
HOAG has a great reputation as well.
Thanks, I have interviews set up at UCLA, Hoag, and Blue Cross. I also will call Ventura county when Im there, got a reply for interview, but it was late friday when the mail came. I will call monday. Thanks, I dont mind that kind of population, we have a lot of that in Salinas, low income, no pnc, etc. Good luck to you.

I'm not a nurse yet, but I've been volunteering at Hoag (in 8 West/Oncology) for over three months. I really, really love it there! If all goes well, I'll be starting nursing school next year, and I hope to get a job at Hoag after I graduate. The nurses and CNA's are so nice, and I love the patients :-)
Good luck with your interviews! :wink2:

Hi,
A nurse aquaintance of mine has been out of nursing for 15 years. Prior to that she worked full-time for 10 years, in an oncology clinic - no less, for the latter part of that time.
She took a refresher class and now claims she cannot get a job in Orange county, California where she lives.
Through advance for nursing and local ads I see mulitple available opportunities.
What do you suppose she must be doing or presenting herself as to not be given a chance.

The problem is that nursing education has advanced by so much in the last 15 years. Usually nurses go through "re-education" to keep up to date, but if you dont work, you wont stay updated, thus probably leading to her problem.

Hi all,
I'm new here to this site...I have a question regarding moving to the Orange county area...I currently work in Idaho for the state as an LPN at a psych facility and I also work at a long term care/rehab facility...I guess I put in about 60 - 72 hours a wk. Anyway, my question is :what type of income might one expect in those fields of employment as an LPN? And what areas of the Orange county region are the best to be in? I am currently making about $15-18 an hour here. I'm expecting to pay about $1,500 a mo for mrtg.
Thank you,
chanamadila

I did my clinical rotation at LaCasa. They employ LPNs and it's in Long Beach. Its a big facility and is really nice for a mental hospital :)
