I am in my lasy semester of a US ADN program and will be taking the NCLEX in Jan 2009. I may need to mobve to the GTA area in 2009 due to family reasons. Since I do noty have a BSN I do not believe I can qualify to practice as an RN in Ontario. However it seems like my education would qualify me to write the Canadian PN exams and qualify as a PN.
So my question is - How easy is it to find a PN position in the GTA ? Also what starting salary can one expect ?
Thanks

I'm a practical nursing student here in Toronto and check the job postings at all the GTA hospitals on a daily basis, just to keep my finger on the pulse of the RPN job market.
In my opinion, the best money ($22 + hourly starting) is not within downtown Toronto. Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington and Hamilton hospitals hire practical nurses at that starting salary, and are letting them work to their full scope of work. If you looking to work right downtown Toronto in a hospital, the RPN jobs are few and far between - I saw an ad for an RPN starting at $19/hr, while ward clerks make the same hourly wage.
Hope this helps!

I think you might have trouble with that plan. The registering body (College of Nurses of Ontario) for RPNs in Ontario may not be amenable to accepting your RN education program as equivalent to their RPN educational program. Have you contacted them and asked if this is a possible path?
