Jobs for Nursing Students

Published

i am about to finish my first year of nursing school and i need a job for winter break. i was hoping to find a job where i could get some experience but i don't know what i would be allowed to do. i know at the hospital they will let you do like an "internship" but you have to agree to work for them for a year after you graduate. which i don't want to commit to anywhere. anyone have any ideas of where i could work at??

internships are for grads- not nursing students.

Nursing students may work as student nurse externs (SNE), CNAs (if you got certified), care techs, patient sitters, home health aids, etc.

Check your local hospital websites for job listings

Specializes in Vascular, Neurosurgery, Urology.

Is there a Veterans hospital near you? I am a nursing student and I work at the VA as a Student Nurse Technician. It is a great job!! I do mostly CNA work but a lot of the nurses let me do skills under their supervision if they have the time. You should look into it. :typing

Are you looking for a temporary job just for winter break or are you looking for a student job for the rest of nursing school?

If you need a temp job for a few weeks, hospitals are not the place to look, since by the time orientation is over, winter break is over. Retail and movie theaters oven hire students on winter break to cover the increase in business.

Student jobs in hospitals include CNA's, telemetry techs, patient transporters and phlebotomists. You do need some training/certification for some of these.

After finishing my sophmore year or Fundamental nursing courses I was able to apply for a job as a student technician. As stated above for the most part I do CA work, but if you work at a teaching hospital like I do you see a lot and there are some nurses that are willing to let you help (under their supervision) with certain skills. I work in the Pool, which means I float from all floors, so that helped be decide what areas of nursing I liked better than others. It also allowed me to pick my own hours and days I wanted to work and since your looking for a part time/ temporary job the Pool employees at my hospital only have to work a minimum of 24 hours a month. Its worth looking into in a hospital in your area because you can keep this job during school as well if you wanted.
