Hi, I'm going to start school to become an LVN. I was wondering how hard it is to find a job in California right now. I would like to work in a hospital, but I realize that it is hard to find LVN openings in the hospital. Does anyone have any information that you could share with me. Thank you so much.
I did get one right away. I think mainly it's because of experience. I also notice here in Ca. most employers are looking for "Experience," and I understand the rationale. It's all about $$$. "New Bees" with no experience cost alot. You have to mentor them longer, and Companies cannot afford to have extra staffing these days. With my new job all I need to know is polices & protocol along with usual routine and paperwork. Where's this and where's that etc........ I just completed my 3rd day of orientation, and I feel like I'm ready to roll....
P.S. Please don't get offended when I wrote "New Bee," it was a figure-of-speech. :)
Also, to answer the prior post's question the area is in Sacramento.
Thanks. So you were an LVN for awhile when you got the new job? I was thinking of maybr going to school to become a medical assistant instead . Maybe it would be easier to get a job as an MA. Also, I did find a website that has posts to hire LVNs in my area. So, I thinking maybe some new LVN dont know where to look for employment. Congratulations on your new job.:redbeathe:yeah:

Yes i see TONS of internet postings for lvn jobs... Tons... Craigslist... job finder... etc... But go ahead and give them a call. Then tell them you are a new LVN graduate. THEN see what happens.
These job openings are probably for experienced LVNs because they are considered more cost-effective. Nowadays, many workplaces in CA absolutely do not wish to spend the time, money, or effort on properly training a new grad LVN with no experience. The website has tons of employment opportrunities for LVNs.
Honestly, orange county, los angeles and anything in that area are more likely to hire new grads. Anyone living in that area looking for an LVN job should try out there. Sub-acute would be the best bet.
Where are you possibly getting this information?? Understanding supply and demand alone makes LA and Orange County two of the worse places to look for an LVN job -- too many schools in these areas pumping out too many new grads too many times a year for a limited number of jobs. In all my job searching I found areas around San Diego to be more willing to give a new grad a chance than anywhere in LA or OC. And sub acute? Most SNFs I know that have sub acute units do no start out new grads in sub acute. If they put someone in sub acute without having previous sub acute experience, it's because that person already has other prior nursing experience.

I'm getting my information from places I work and other places where new grads have been hired.
