I have wanted to be nurse forever. But circumstances got in the way. I read some other threads about age and being older. I feel loke I can do it. I just have some questions about the best way to go about it. If a person is older, like I am, 55, and wants to become a nurse. Some of the nurses here are saying that it is harder for older people to get a job because of training expenses. So, would it be better to first become a CNA, Then immediately an acute care CNA, then immediately an LVN/LPN. That way we will have alot of hands on experience. Also, do you all think that at 55, I would be able to get an job as a LVN/LPN and an assisted living/Nursing Home, fairly easy. I would like to become an LVN/LPN and work in an assisted Living/Nursing Home, or even Home Health, Hospice. Does anyone have any advise for me, like what track I should take at my age, I don't really want o become an RN because of the length of schooling and the stress. And it seems it is difficult to find a job.

I was wondering because it seems like hospitals might want to save money and have more LVN's that are highly qualified and less RN's on the floor. Or are CNA's doing the LVN's duties now a days.?

Where there's a will, there's a way! Iv'e lived in California my whole life. Yes, there are places in Orange County that are affordable. You can do it!

Well I guess I've got my answer. I guess I'll just stick to selling health and life insurance, there's alot more money in that anyways. I have always had this deep down desire to be a nurse. It's just the wrong time with this economy. Thanks everyone for your input and advise.

Thanks. So you were an LVN for awhile when you got the new job? I was thinking of maybr going to school to become a medical assistant instead . Maybe it would be easier to get a job as an MA. Also, I did find a website that has posts to hire LVNs in my area. So, I thinking maybe some new LVN dont know where to look for employment. Congratulations on your new job.:redbeathe:yeah:

Ok, so now I'm thinking of becoming a medical assistant instead of an LVN, or CNA, because it is so hard to find a job as a LVN right now. Does anyone know how hard it is to find a job as a medical assistant. I really want to do something in the medical field. I absolutely love helping others and I am very interested in medical issues. mandykal, are you a new grad lvn? so did you apply for jobs and right away got one? where at? i'm just curious. everyone has been telling me it is really hard to find a job as an lvn right now, especially a new grad. what do you think?

What about CNA's? Is it hard to find a job as a CNA?

Hi, I'm going to start school to become an LVN. I was wondering how hard it is to find a job in California right now. I would like to work in a hospital, but I realize that it is hard to find LVN openings in the hospital. Does anyone have any information that you could share with me. Thank you so much.

I think comparing the passing rates at each school of your choice is a good indication of how good the school is. What state are you in? You can usually find the info at your states board of nursing website.
