I've had it up to the bloody ears with the management at my building (and others in my company). I have worked there for over two years as a CNA, gotten excellent reviews every year, and was employee of the month last year.
Since I graduated May 24 (LVN school), I worked as a unit clerk - then got pulled to the floor as a CNA half the time. I was switched from day to evening shift with less than 24 hours notice. I was changed to nights with a week's notice - and two actual days off in which to change my internal clock.
When I passed NCLEX, I started to orient on nights. Yesterday, the DON of another building (where I precepted) called me and asked when I'd be starting there.
Wait, what? Apparently my administrator was supposed to ask me about this last week... but never did. I went in to speak with the other DON... first was offered a full-time unit clerk position. I didn't mind clerking, but I didn't go to nursing school to shuffle papers. Oh, then how about CNA coordinator? I kept a straight face and told her that I prefer to use the skills I possess as an LVN. At this point I'm wondering just what on earth is going on.
Oh, good, because we have an opening for that too! Two day and one night shift a week! And since your building is overstaffed for nurses and has no room for you, you'd be happy to take it, right?! Starting the end of next week?
Until she called me again this morning - having spoken to my administrator again. He told her I could start today! Right away! Didn't bother to call me at all! I told her I can start Friday....
I gave report to day shift trying not to scream or cry. I'm just livid at being jerked around like this. I was promised a job upon my graduation, and told just last week by the staffing coordinator that I'd have full-time nights at my building.
Administrator has a note taped to his door saying "So long, and thanks for all the fish."

These people are being very disrespectful of you as a person. This is not the way the should be going about this. I wouldn't blame you if you applied other places and left without notice. How can HR dept. insist on notice of resignation and go about pulling tricks like this themselves?

I'd look for something else.
My situation is this: I was working as a CNA for this building, and offered a spot in the local community college's LVN program (which my company started), on condition that I work for them for three years after graduation.
At the time, I was thinking "Yay, guaranteed a job!" Now I'm thinking "Great big shafting!" I am thinking about applying at the one hospital in the area that does hire LVNs, and fulfilling my contract by working per diem.

I've heard that it is very rare that they ever go after what they paid you for school. Has anyone else heard this? It is not unusual to have schedulers think ofyou as a body they can plug in anywhere, and not as a person with a life. I would go elsewhere and work for someone more considerate. Just don't badmouth them in your interview. The 'not a good fit' line seems to work well. Good luck!

OMG, it sounds like they have the opinion that they "own" you and could throw you anywhere. Now, you just are eligible to fill more gaps in this place. Like when they need you and where they need you. And, they promised you FT nights in same building?
If it were me, I would leave in a heartbeat. There were too many strings attached to their deal which they neglected to tell you about. I would seek employment elsewhere. I think sticking around for three years of this type of treatment is not worth it.
Two days off to transition from nights to days. Wow! It would take me that long just to function on days again. And, the first day is spent sleeping, so it is only like one day off. Too much abuse to the circadian rhythm!
Congratulations:yeah: on your new LVN status.

If the contract says it, then it is so.
But, on the other hand, they broke their part of the contract, by not giving her a job as a LVN.
