I was looking at a job posting looking that was looking for a PDN for a quad. The person posting the ad said " Must not be overweight".
Um... define overweight?
Well that disqualifies me and a bunch of other nurses, geesh.
A) Someone looking for a PDN can choose whomever they want, based on whatever the want. That said, flat out posting it on the job listing is pretty lame, but it still probably gets the point across.
B) Anyone else that has worked in flight nursing like myself knows weight requirements do exist in mainstream nursing. Some people just might not realize it.
I don't see anything wrong with the patient hiring a nurse he finds attractive if he isn't verbally, or otherwise, inappropriate. As has been said, obesity/overweight is not a protected class.
Nothing was said about "attractive", the issue was the BMI per the OP.
Which brings up another issue. Why does one assume that "normal" BMI = attractive.
You are right. I extrapolated that the would be employer was looking for a body type he found attractive. It sounds like he is looking for companionship he is missing. However, that may not be his rationale at all. Maybe he just despises fat people for a reasons we could never guess, I don't know. In any event, it is his right and I think is fine under the circumstances. I'm sure regardless of my BMI (which is 22, if it matters) I am far too old for the job.
