I have no idea what part of town to search for an apartment in. What part of town is White Memorial considered? Where around there is safe to live, yet not too far?
I would be coming from Texas, so any help would be appreciated.

We lived in Glendale when I worked at White Memorial.
You will have to do some scouting around for a neighborhood you're comfortable living in.
Haven't lived in the area for over 20 yr so can't advise you on recent areas.
Good luck!

White Memorial is in East Los Angeles. You may feel safer living in the San Gabriel Valley which includes the cities of San Gabriel, Whittier, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Alhambra, Temple City, South Pasadena, or to the north in cities like El Sereno, Glassell Park, Glendale, Pasadena, Eagle Rock, Silverlake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, West Hollywood...Good luck!
Please be safe that is not the best part of LA. I say Santa Monica as well.

Been trying to get a job at that hospital, which unit did you get hired on? I also live in TX. I visited the hospital while in LA

Monrovia is safe and you will have the smallest distance to travel with traffic. It's not a safe place.

Santa Monica (as other posters have recommended) is a nice place to live, but very impractical if going to White Memorial... You'd pretty much have to cross all of Los Angeles to get from one place to the other -- not fun in our notorious LA traffic. And the area near the hospital, East LA, would not be safe area to live. Personally, I would prefer the Pasadena area. Perhaps you should consider flying out for a few days to check out different prospective areas before committing to a specific place.

Just wanted to add that Santa Monica is VERY expensive also
