Arrgghhh, don't you just hate that?! You are waiting for that call and you get nothing, nada, zip, zilch... Heck, at this point any call would make you feel good.

Are you constantly looking at your phone? Waiting for that important phone call? Tell us your story.

Where I live this seems to happen a lot nurses - regardless of their experience or degree...someone I work with now had an interview back in Dec, was invited to "shadow" a week later, a week later was offered the position, has done the drug screen/background, was notified everything checked out and his soon-to-be new director would be in touch to give him dates for orientation..he has been waiting for 3 weeks now for someone, anyone, to call him with the information. He has contacted the HR dept and the hiring director. Absolute silence. He is at a loss because they are supposedly "desperate" for someone with experience for the unit he interviewed for. He also agreed to a different shift than he applied for because he liked the unit and the people he met while shadowing. He can't put in his 2 weeks where we work since he doesn't know a start date for this other job is supposedly had.

Where we work is not a hospital setting but it's busy and help is needed. Jobs are posted but, according to our manager, she is getting "few" responses. I'm beginning to think it's because it's all computer generated, managed at our out of state corporate headquarters so for whatever reason she is not getting all the info. for applicants that apply. Once again, staffing issues are beginning to cause good nurses to consider leaving and to date 2 have - the rate we are losing versus higher is unbalanced.

I understand employers and HR dept are busy but I think professionalism is a two way street and if after someone is hired the facility changes its mind or there is more than a few days delay then it would be professional not to met courteous for the prospective employee to know this. There is enough stress in this career field without unnecessary stresses being placed on top. Email takes a few seconds - a phone call a little long - I may be in the minority but I really don't understand employers who complain - at least not where I live - when they treat nurses like this before they are even in the door.

Yes, and yes! I interviewed 2 days before Christmas and was told I would hear either way after the holidays. It is now January 19, and I am still waiting. Apparently, they are still "interviewing qualified candidates".....my friend that works on the unit said "What? Your was the only interview I know of.....and they have one more interview scheduled. They need to fill this position ASAP!"

Along with not hearing anything, they also do not return phone calls OR emails. Isn't that professional?

Recent interview experience - the interviewee stated she had other interviews lined up but after my interview was not going to pursue them. She said she was going to be out of the office for the remainder of the week for a funeral but I would hear something by the beginning of the following week. That was 3 weeks ago. Since then, the job has been reposted. **blank stare** WTH.

I am still waiting for a call back "after the holidays". This is from an application submitted three years ago.

The employers do discriminate due to the marital status and ethnicity and age. So Sad! It's some kind of unwritten rule. The person who is above HR is making decision about the application with all information about you. The employers want to know everything about you( your marital status and your ethnicity), before they call you back. I was waiting for a long time to get a phone call back from the employer and finally got a job as a nurse.
