Hi, ya'll! I just thought I would try to connect with any other hopefuls that are going to attempt to be accepted into JJC's Nursing program for Fall of 2015. Was curious as to how you are all feeling about your possibility of being accepted. (I.e teas score, pre-reqs, gpa, etc.)
Hope to meet some new friends to share this journey with! Any other "seasoned" nursing students that read this, care to shed some light on what I should be preparing myself for?
Yes my pre reqs are done. I'm taking bio 251 right now. I would think the scores are pretty accurate. I'm not gonna be able to wait for another month. I'm so filled with anxiety. I put I prefer days but would take nights. However I really want days bc if I do get nights, my husband will have to change his work schedule to be home with the kids.
I am so anxious over this as well. The next month is going to be SUCH a long wait. I just hope they tell us BEFORE spring break, instead of waiting until afterwards or else we are going to be middle of April before we find out! How does it work if you are currently in one of the pre-reqs? They just don't count it as complete? I've never applied before.
I really wish there was more people replying to these threads so we could get a feel for what all the applicants are looking like. I put that I prefer evenings, but could do days. I didn't want to limit myself to just one option and lose my chance of getting in if the opposite was the only option open. Know what I mean? My mom is going to be watching the kids and evenings work better so she doesn't have to come over at 5am! :)
April 1st?! Oh my goodness, that is just TOO far away! I know it isn't required to apply, I just meant since it's one of the classes they figure your gpa from. When I took my TEAS test, the entire room was filled with people taking it to apply. The proctors said it's been full and sold out like that for a week or two. That's what makes me so nervous!!! I looked back at the thread from people that applied in August of 14 to start this spring, and they found out on Sept 25th. I guess that's why I was hoping we would find out March 25th. Darn. I"m just nervously awaiting that email that they send saying they received our applications. I am so scared there will be a technical issue and mine didn't go through or something!!!!
I just spoke with Kathy from JJC nursing admissions. She said there were over 200 applications this time around. She does not know what the TEAS average was. For those of us who scored over an 80, we will be receiving an email first week of March stating that we preliminarily qualify for admission. For those who did not qualify because they're short classes or whatever, they, too, will be notified at that time. We will then need to wait until April 1st to hear if we've been accepted or not.
If you want to make absolutely certain JJC Nursing received your application, you can speak with Kathy (815) 280-2429. She will confirm receipt.
She also asked me to fax in my high school transcript - even though I have another Bachelor's degree. Just a heads up for those who did not complete this step. I just did it now.
Good luck! Post if you hear anything else. :-)
I was just coming on here to update you with what I had heard. :) I spoke with Tina McComb, the department secretary, and she told me there was 232 applicants this round, which is up about 30% from past semesters. She also didn't have any information regarding average TEAS score or anything yet. She told me they are in the process of determining how many of those 200+ students are actually qualified applicants, and will begin scoring from there.
I then called Kathy, per your recommendation, and she did confirm that my application was received and that they DO have my high school transcript on file. Thanks for that heads-up!
I am hoping we hear sooner, rather than later, since the deadline to apply for scholarships is April 1st. Best of luck to you, even though I have no doubt in my mind that you are for sure accepted!
TeTeab03,
Why are you feeling less confident now? You never know what will happen! Keep your head up, and keep the faith! :) If you don't make it in this round, August is right around the corner to apply again!
Monac,
I also was told that the qualified applicants will also be given information about coming in to do the admissions essay, if they scored between a 50 and 79 on the TEAS test. If there are more students in our guaranteed category than that are spots available in the program, we will also be told we need to come in and take this essay. However, Tina mentioned that she thinks it is extremely rare for there to be 96 students in the guaranteed category, so hopefully we are in a good spot :)

It's hard to judge what our chances of getting in are. This wait is sooooo long! I know they look at TEAS composite, Teas Science, number of pre-reqs completed, and gpa from those pre-reqs.
