I wanted to start a thread for all who are planning on applying to the Fall 2015 nursing program. I feel it will be very helpful in the process. I just moved to Alabama in May of last year & was originally going for Physical Therapy (not assistant, actual therapist). Well that has fallen through & I feel led to go the nursing route. I already have a bachelors degree from another college so all my prerequisites are done (just wished I would have done a little better -hince my PT problem). I have signed up for my TEAS test for February 5th so hopefully if I don't get what I want I can retake it in time for the application. I emailed one of the advisors at the Shelby campus & she said the average applicant is at 60% /90pts. When I calculate that up it doesn't seem like much. So my goal is to make around 85% or more, but we shall see. I just know I need to do VERY,VERY well on the TEAS to make up for my grades not being all A's.
How about anyone else, where do you all stand with applying this fall? Are you doing full time, night-weekend? Which campus are you all applying to?
TEAS - I think everyone needs to at least take the practice tests online to get a feel for the test. I don't know how true some of the stories are, but I've seen where some people can just go in and take it without studying and do well. My problem was Math and Science, so that's what I've been studying for this time. I love the fact that they show you where you can approve. I advise people to at least take it once to get that knowledge and then focus on what they mention, and then retake it. That's my plan at least.
Hey there! I'm also applying for Jeff State Fall 2015. Just took my TEAS V today - glad to get that over with! I got 88.7% on the TEAS and have As in my math and science classes that they use for scoring, so I feel pretty good about my chances of getting in. I'm at ~230 pts. I will be applying for the day program full time. Not sure which campus yet though...I was thinking Shelby, but now I'm reconsidering after reading that some people have had a bad experience there. Anybody have details on what makes the Shelby campus so notorious?
And does anyone know whether Jeff State grads have an ok time finding jobs? I've been told the trend is towards employers preferring BSNs, so I'm a little worried about getting just an ADN. I plan to eventually do a bridge to BSN program, but don't want to get stuck not being able to find a first nursing job. I already have 2 stinkin' degrees that weren't much help in the job dept .
I know what you mean. I am super excited too. I am going to begin filling it out. Before I submit it I am going to go to the campus and see if I can get my advisor to look over everything to make sure I have everything needed. I would hate to not be accepted just because I left something out or didn't initial something.
@j.w. Every nurse that I've encountered said they went to Jeff State, except 2. I think they have a wonderful reputation. I do know that certain hospitals prefer a BSN. Some don't require it. I think it is not a requirement for most because we're all taking the same test. Also, there is a growing number of RN bridges. So there really isn't a reason to pursue one. I've seen some hospitals hire people who commit to do a bridge after being hired.

I'm applying for the night/weekend program at Shelby. I currently have 187.5 points, and I've read the blog from some of last year's applicants and some people got in with 180s and one even got in with 176. So I'm feeling a bit better now, but I am still thinking about retaking the Teas for more points. I would love to go in with at least 190 or 200 points.
