Jefferson State Community College Fall 2015 Applicants

Published

I wanted to start a thread for all who are planning on applying to the Fall 2015 nursing program. I feel it will be very helpful in the process. I just moved to Alabama in May of last year & was originally going for Physical Therapy (not assistant, actual therapist). Well that has fallen through & I feel led to go the nursing route. I already have a bachelors degree from another college so all my prerequisites are done (just wished I would have done a little better -hince my PT problem). I have signed up for my TEAS test for February 5th so hopefully if I don't get what I want I can retake it in time for the application. I emailed one of the advisors at the Shelby campus & she said the average applicant is at 60% /90pts. When I calculate that up it doesn't seem like much. So my goal is to make around 85% or more, but we shall see. I just know I need to do VERY,VERY well on the TEAS to make up for my grades not being all A's.

How about anyone else, where do you all stand with applying this fall? Are you doing full time, night-weekend? Which campus are you all applying to?

Good luck you guys! Your TEAS scores sound awesome. I was accepted into the night and weekend program with an 81.3%. I graduate in the fall. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It's a challenging program, but I feel it's worth it! :)

Lcp616 Yes! I am sure we will have tons of questions! How are the teachers? Do you work while going and if so do you find it hard to do both??

Thanks LCP!

I submitted my application today! Eek!

Good luck... summer 2015 shelby or jefferson

I do not work. I would say the majority of the people in the program do work though. I have 2 kids, so that's why I chose part time. I would say it's very doable to work. Currently, We only have class once a week plus clinicals (this semester there are 6 and a weekend of mental health)

I plan on applying to the Fall program at the Jefferson campus. I have heard that the Shelby campus is horrible. I take the Teas test on the 23rd of this month so I have been studying for it. I am studying the ATI manual and I am going to the library today to check out some more books that are supposed to be study manuals for it. I am also applying for Sheltons Fall program and also Lawson State. My first choice is Shelton, second is Jeff State and Lawson is last. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and finishing my last pre-req this semester. Hopefully I rock the TEAS so I can get into Shelton. Good luck to everyone.

@aingram1169 ....sounds like you are in very great shape academically! I don't see you having a problem getting into any of them! Hope you do well! I take me teas test tomorrow. ..hopefully I will do well, but if not I have time to try again & I will be more familiar with the test outline! I will let you all know how it goes!

Good Luck Tara1986 and yes please let me know how you do and what it is like. I also am taking mine early enough that if I don't do good enough I can retake it. Again good luck and get plenty of sleep even though I know that is easier said than done.

Soooo, the TEAS was not as bas as I thought! Although, I plan to retake it because I did not due as well as I wanted. But, 74% is good for only a weeks worth of studying I guess...... So I know now what to study & work on. For those who have not taken it yet, definitely brush up on your science & grammar, there are some pretty detailed questions in both that are tricky if you have not done them in a while! I have been out of college for almost 2 years now and have not had a grammar/English class in at least 4 years so those were my main struggles! Good luck to everyone else on their tests & applications!

So, I finally got the TEAS over with. *sigh of relief* Although I will be retaking it again before I apply.lol. The science section killed me, yall.

How did you do wishmeluckk?? The science section was harder than I thought!

I got an overall of 82%. I definitely bombed the science though..but between my classes and work, I haven't really studied besides taking a couple practice tests. At least there's still time to retake it.
